Jeremy Floyd was born and raised on the South side of Chicago, is a person who refuses to quit, aspires to inspire others, and hopes to make as many people possible smile in the process. Jeremy is someone God brought from self-hatred and big mistakes to finding purpose realizing God can take broken vessels and make us whole through Jesus Christ. Listeners on the show today will be challenged and inspired to walk away from fear and motivated to step into their God given purpose in this life.

Introduction to Jeremy Floyd (3:00)

Jeremy moved from Chicago to Minneapolis in 2009. He has a twin brother that passed away at age 13 and another brother six years older than himself. His life has been the epitome of never giving up. Having faced abuse, brokenness, and deep grief, Jeremy learned from a young age to be a fighter. Growing up amidst the chaos he also realized that he could distract himself and others with laughter.

Light in Dark Places (4:30)

God will still allow good to come out of dark places. Our gifts can be used and cultivated in the darkest of times! Jeremy has done a lot of suffering in life and through the trials it taught him that sometimes we have to fight, claw, scrape, get down and dirty before we will rise up again.

His Ways, Not Our Ways (5:45)

God is intertwined in every single detail of our lives. Through the years of suffering Jeremy went through in life, he came to a place where he was ready to surrender fully to God. Jeremy did not want to know God based off what others would tell him, rather he was desperate to know God for himself.

Becoming A Son (6:30)

There are over 7 billion people on this earth, and how amazing is it that God would be mindful to each of our hearts!  Jeremy shares God seems to be making up the time now for what he didn’t have with his dad growing up.

True Identity (8:00)

True identity comes from God. As we discover who God is, we discover who we are. Going hand in hand, as we discover who we are in Christ, giftings are also discovered within!

A Quest For True Love (11:00)

Jeremy searched for true love in places like drugs, sports, alcohol, self image, and sex for a long time. In his adult years he came to a point where he knew that he needed God more than anything else in this life.

A Deep Cry (12:30)

God is always in pursuit of us, He will answer our cries.

God is Good (14:30)

God is good and he always will be good. Jeremy desires to live the rest of his life helping people believe again and finding their true purpose.

Find What Matters (14:30)

As believers we are created to go against the grain of the culture. We are born to live for the Kingdom of God. What are you doing for the kingdom?

A Strong Voice (17:00)

Carrie takes a moment to thank Jeremy for being a strong voice, helping pave a path for others to follow.

The Solution (18:00)

Jeremy believes the only way many issues will get resolved today is by turning back to Christ. There is a difference between saying that you are a “Christian” and living ones life out as a believer.

Wrestling (21:00)

After fighting back and forth being frustrated with God and wondering why he’s had to go through so much suffering in his life, Jeremy remembers a voice saying “I can’t take something from you that you never wanted to give up”. In that moment Jeremy said “I surrender” and believed in his heart God could take a weak yes and turn it into a strong yes.

The Pursuit (22:30)

Carrie elaborates on the importance of knowing God based off personal experience rather than the experience of others. We are not meant to ride on the coattails of other people and unfortunately there are people in the church who have yet to receive this revelation. It wasn't until Carrie was challenged to go and share her faith to the world that she realized this for herself too.

Rise Up Church (24:45)

God is not a genie in a bottle, He is worthy of our full hearted pursuit and devotion. God is loving, but there are also things God hates. Everyday we are in a spiritual warfare, it is time for the Church to stand back up!

Walk Unchained (29:00)

Jeremy has chosen to embark on a walking journey from Minneapolis, MN to Santa Monica, CA starting June 1st, 2019. He will launch from the adult teen challenge center and the entire walking experience journey will be recorded. To follow along on the journey click HERE.

The Vision (30:00)

Jeremy had a dream of walking across the states since he was 10 years old but knew he wasn't old enough to go quite yet. At age 13 his twin brother passed away and knew that his parents for sure would not allow him to walk after that either, for they didn't want to lose another child. Fast forward years later, this past fall Jeremy found himself in his car praying and worshipping, and in that time received a vision from God revealing his calling and reminding him to do the walk across the states.

Moving Forward, Looking Backwards (32:45)

Often times God will prepare us for future endeavours without ourselves realizing it. Jeremy reflects back and sees how often he walked to places and had often asked himself “why do I have to walk so much”. Now he reflects on those past experiences and realizes there was always significance to it.

Childlike Wonder (33:00)

We were created to open our hearts to God. We were made to believe God could use broken people like ourselves to do mighty things in this world today!

Known (36:30)

In order to know our true selves, purpose, and giftings, we need to come close to God because he created us in the first place. For Jeremy, He discovered that he loves to make people smile and help people operate in their purpose. When he is making people smile and helping, that is where he feels most alive.

Find Your Purpose (39:00)

Jeremy cannot imagine dying and not doing what He was created to do. This walk is the start of a lifelong journey empowering and inspiring others to latch onto God and to find out what their purpose in this life is too. In this time of walking he will be making stops at rehab centers, youth homes, vlogging, and sharing the raw and real moments of everyday life on the ground. It’s going to be an amazing journey and we hope you choose to follow along too!

Emily Khouphongsy is a a mechanical engineer, a Michigander, and a current student in the propel women's cohort group at Wheaton College. Today Emily and Carrie chat on what the Bible says about the church and God's heart for the body of Christ. Listeners on the show today will be blessed as they hear Emily speak and as she shares her insight on God's intentions for the Church community!

Introduction to Emily (2:00)

Emily is originally from central Kentucky and now lives south of Ann Arbor, Michigan. She currently works in the field of Toyota research development as well as crash safety development.

Passion for the Church (5:00)

It’s so exciting to dig deep on what the church was designed to fulfill. Carrie and Emily chat on how the concept of communal support, worship, and accomplishing God’s work can be such a beautiful thing. Learning about how God intended to use the church is very intriguing to Emily and Carrie both. The Church has a purpose and we as believers should be passionate about fulfilling its mission!

The Word: Church (7:00)

Carrie chats about how she had never really studied the word “Church” before, but after her experience in learning what the biblical definition of church means, it impacted her greatly.

Ecclesia (7:45)

Ecclesia is the original Greek word used to describe the church by the new testament writers. They adopted this word from the original Greek language and culture. It was commonly used in classic Greek to refer to an assembly or gathering of people. This word is also used 114 times in the New Testament for a wide range of applications.

Dive In (11:00)

Carrie shares that it’s important to research the meaning of words found in the bible from a historical context.

We Are the Church (12:00)

The Church is not simply a building, the body of believers is what makes up the church!

Marked by Love (14:00)

Emily shares her realization that when we represent Ecclesia with English words we actually dilute and shift our view on what the origin of this word means. It is the way we look from the outside is what defines us as Christ followers.

True Identity (16:00)

Our identity is in Christ, not where we worship, where we go, not by a name of a church or a denomination. We are marked by the fruit of what we do, it’s that simple. If as believers we could see the church as people rather than buildings, we could take more ground for the kingdom!

Religion (17:00)

Religion and church are not the same thing. The church is not a group of people that follow a bunch of rules, but rather we are a people who follow Christ because of our love and devotion to Him.

A New Language (19:15)

As believers in Jesus we don’t follow religion, we follow God. Church is meant to be a community of people living out the calling of God. It seems to be that our language of what the word “Church” is known for in the western culture is inappropriate. It would be better to say we are going to worship with the church or we are going to spend time with the church rather than saying we are going to church.

Real Church Fruit (21:00)

Emily elaborates on 3 main categories of what she believes the Church should consist of:

  1. The fundamental concept of evangelism in that we are called to share the good news of Jesus Christ, and to make disciples.
  2. The concept of gathering the nations in that the Church is called to gather everyone up on a global scale.
  3. The concept of bringing God’s kingdom to earth. As followers of Christ we are meant to prepare the kingdom for Jesus’s return. This involves restoration, healing, redemption, and reinstating peace and security for others. We are here to also help people be restored personally or through relationship.

All of this means we are pursuing to live out God’s original design for the kingdom!

The Basics (24:00)

We have a tendency to over complicate church. Breaking it down, we’re called to share and to be the good news. We’re called to usher people into the kingdom. We are also called to be known by the love we share as Christ followers, united by the Holy Spirit because of what Christ did for us.

What is the Church (25:30)

It’s extremely important for followers of Christ to think about what the Church is. We’re meant to be a people moved by the experience of Jesus. We respond with a desire to share the good news of what we’ve experienced with others, to make disciples, and to commune with God. When we do this we become an “Ecclesia”, moved by the experience of God. People are watching and listening, may we not take this reality lightly!

A Reflection on the Church (31:15)

In reality, our daily actions reflect the Church. Carrie shares that she wants to see the church for who we are and what we represent rather than what we’re against.

Encouragement from Emily (32:00)

Emily encourages listeners to ask yourself why we serve, what we serve, and what our role in the body of Christ is as God originally intended? It’s in all our best interests to take a look at the original definition of the church and allow that to motivate us in how we act and serve!

Lila Hermosillo is a mentor, culture changer, and advocate in ministry for the young adult and college student populations.  She helps connect students to the Father through the latino culture. Anyone listening today will have their eyes opened to the significance of what culture one is raised in, and how we can use it for greater impact all around.

Introduction to Lila Hermosillo (2:00)

Lila currently lives in San Jose, California, and has been surrounded by the hispanic culture her entire life. Her parents were born in Mexico and she also graduated from San Jose State University, where her spiritual journey really took off.

A Testimony (3:30)

Before Lila was born, her family was invited to a new church, which her family still goes today. Lila grew up going to church yet she saw it as boring. She knew a lot about God and his love, but it wasn’t until she was a teenager that she started to really discover what faith was all about. Through various experiences, she also saw a lot of brokenness in the church, and decided she would only dip in a little bit with the whole church scene, but still wanted to be a good person.

The Wrong Seeking (6:00)

Lila fell into seeking affirmation and affection into places she should not have. She started to confuse friendships with how it could make her feel better which eventually led into a relationship with a girl.

A Good Fight (7:30)

Lila battled struggling to be obedient to God’s will for a little over a year.  She was happy, but knew it wasn’t God’s plan for her life. Very soon after that things ended, and Lila felt worthless. She felt undervalued and was hungry for affirmation.

A Special Wednesday (8:00)

After a conversation with a friend Lila broke down and released everything that had been on her mind and heart. In that same time, she asked God to come into her life where she said “I am yours, you are mine”. This was the moment that Lila’s life turned around.

Vulnerability (11:00)

God will use our brokenness and sinful nature to bring glory and freedom to all kinds of people. If it's just one person’s life that is impacted for the better, then it’s worth it!

Walk in the Light (12:00)

We are meant to walk in the light. We are never meant to sit in isolation. Lila encourages listeners to let someone know what’s going on, to let them be trusted, and to ask for help. Community is key.

Walk in Love (14:00)

God is the one who solves the problems, not us! Keep your eyes out for people who are reaching out or may just need a listening ear.

Destino (15:00)

Similar to Campus Crusade, Destino is a ministry that promotes the Christian faith. Lila is currently working on campus as a mentor for people walking in their faith and growing.

The World Race (17:30)

The World Race is an 11 month mission trip Lila went on about 2 years ago. In this time she discovered how much she loves teaching the bible and seeing freedom happen. Lila’s desire is to see people truly know God. She wants to see chains broken and for people to truly love the Lord with all their heart, mind, and soul.

It Takes All Of Us (22:45)

Diversity is a beautiful thing! We can see a piece of God’s character and heart through it all.

Know Your Self Worth (24:00)

When we don’t know who God has called us to be, we fall into the wrong places. He knows your every need and thought. It is so important to be centered in Christ, otherwise we may look for love in the wrong areas!

Read the Word (26:00)

There is so much goodness in the bible. Reading is one way you can get to know God more. Lila shares that reading is one way you fall in love with God.

1st John (27:00)

1st John is an amazing place in scripture to take seekers of the faith to.

May 6, 2019

Kendra Fletcher is a speaker, author, steadfast mother of eight children, and a fellow podcaster too. Today on the She Walks In Truth podcast she talks about her new book "Leaving Legalism" and how this writing project came about. Listeners will be challenged, empowered, and encouraged to seek the Lord in everything they do through Kendra and Carrie's conversation today.

Introduction to Kendra (2:00)

Kendra's  passion is to see people set free from really bad religion. She was raised as a California gal in a Christian home, and had 8 children early in her marriage. Kendra and her husband had a heart to raise their children in the faith and through a series of events they decided to home school, which they were told at the time, home schooling would “save their kids”.

Emergency (6:00)

Early on as a mother, Kendra’s baby went into a comma. This was a life changing day for her as she found out her son had caught a deadly virus with liver, kidney, heart, and brain damage. Kendra shares that she believes the traumatizing event was the start of God communicating her and her husband that their focus was on the wrong things.

An Unknown Future (7:45)

Thankfully Kendra’s child was okay and survived the deadly virus, however she did not know what the future would hold. One day driving her kids in the giant van one of her daughters jumped out and was accidentally ran over. Thankfully, the daughter was okay and after some trouble at the hospital, she and her kids still made it home. Kendra shares this was another huge marker in the journey out of legalism.

Where is Your Hope Found (10:00)

Our hope is meant to be found through and only through Jesus. Whether it’s finding worth in the way you mother, what church one goes to, or a method of education, it will all fall short of the hope found in Christ alone.

A Close Call (12:00)

Kendra shares how after a time of all 10 family members having the flu, one of her children became more sick and come to find out had a ruptured appendix, in which they had nearly lost her. This was another eventful mark in her walk with the Lord.

Walking Away (13:00)

Through all these trying events, Kendra and her husband made a decision to walk away from an abusive church situation. Making this decision was better for the health of their faith journey in the long run. Carrie elaborates on how she is blown away by the resilient spirit within Kendra for all the trauma, emotions, challenges, and trials she faced throughout the years.

Be Aware (14:30)

It is extremely important to take notice of how leadership within a church treats you and holds their place. No one is ever meant to take the place of the Holy Spirit, this is something we as believers need to be aware of. If there are rules that seem to micromanage and produce shameful mentalities, or if you feel that your freedom is being stripped, take caution.

Who We Are (18:00)

God constantly tells us who He is and who we are because of that. God is a good father and in return, we are extravagantly loved. Carrie elaborates on her experiences within an unhealthy church and how it made her feel. The struggle is real when there is unhealthiness in a church environment.

Justified and Redeemed (20:00)

If we are justified, redeemed, and restored people God does not look at us with a lens of brokenness and our mistakes, he sees the lens of Jesus in our place. As church bodies, leadership needs to remind us who we are in Jesus more and more. We are created to focus on who we are justified in Christ.

Undoing (22:00)

We are always going to be in this constant process of undoing things that were taught by man. As believers, we’re made to embrace every single thought God has of us, and let all other opinions be laid down. Carrie reminds listeners that God’s kingdom is filled with joy and peace, may we live into this truth with wide open hearts to receive!

A Really Good Legalist (23:30)

It seems to be that as believers often times we are really good at trashing ourselves living into a sinners worth mentality. Kendra challenges listeners to embrace the fact we are already redeemed by God and can live into that mentality. Church bodies don’t need more people telling people what to do, what people need most is people teaching us what Jesus has done for us.

Walk in Confidence (24:00)

If you find yourself in an unhealthy church environment and sense a call to leave, walk out with confidence. Knowing that you’re seeking the Lord is enough to walk away from a group of men and woman telling you what you need to do to be right with God.

Leaving Legalism Book (24:45)

Kendra shares a bit about her Leaving Legalism book and how she provides practical questions for readers to reflect on in effort to help process, heal, and move forward from legalistic mentalities. Click HERE to purchase the Leaving Legalism book.

Pride and Fear (27:00)

Jesus plus this and that is not the way to live! We should never add things to the gospel, therefore it’s important to remind ourselves of the simple gospel on a daily basis. Jesus is enough, and that is all we need for true hope in this life!

His Kindness Leads to Repentance (30:00)

God's Kindness leads us to repentance. Carrie shares about her experiences in realizing what God’s heart for repentance was, which is love. We are not on the losing side of God when we repent. God desires for us to repent because He only has the best intentions in mind.

He is Everything (32:00)

God's kindness wants to remind us that he is everything for you and I. He is everything where our hope comes from. The heart of his kindness that says "let me remind you who I am, and who you are because of that."

Encouragement From Kendra (34:00)

If you have found yourself letting religion take the place of God for you, Kendra encourages listeners to start by praying to the Lord and asking him to help let you believe in Him more, to help you believe who God is better, and to help you believe that you are who God says you are. God is good, He’s better than we think!
