Carrie Robaina is a podcaster and entrepreneur wholeheartedly believes in living with purpose. Aug 27, 2018

Mandy Meehan joins today's episode of She Walks In Truth to talk about embracing the unexpected in a tough season. Just over two years ago, right before she married her husband James, Mandy got sick and has been fighting for my health ever since. She shares about how her life has drastically changed including stepping down from a job she loved as an associate youth pastor at Life.Church and speaks to God's faithfulness through it all. This episode will encourage your heart no matter what season of life you find yourself in.

Faith Story (3:34)

Mandy shares how her story is quite unique in that she doesn't remember making the decision to follow Jesus because she was so young but she does remember wanting to make sure she was following Jesus and kept making the decision to follow God. She talks about how there's never been a place she didn't know Jesus. Mandy says it doesn't mean she hasn't had up and downs but she's known him her whole life and has some great memories including the day she was baptized.

Embracing the Unexpected (7:548)

Over two years ago Mandy's life went completely different than she ever expected. A couple of weeks before her wedding she got a diagnosis of mono. She was still able to marry her husband James and go on her honeymoon and rather than getting better she seemed to present more symptoms. Mandy was nearly married, working full-time and barely functioning. She had to step away from her job as an associate youth pastor at Life.Church in Oklahoma City and felt like she was loosing her purpose. Mandy says circumstances were so difficult but at some point she felt like she was going to die.

Embracing Rather Than Endure (14:00)

Mandy shares how she began to share her story on YouTube. She nearly didn't upload the first episode but it's been great to see how God's used her channel to give hope to people. Her love for nutrition and wellness has exploded and she's been able to help even more people.

Ministry Online  (17:36)

Mandy talks about technology and how even though she isn't able to go to church she is still able to serve online.

Finding Joy In Transitions (21:14)

Finding things to do that she really finds joy in was important to her. Even though she wasn't able do those things very often she was challenged to make sure she was finding her contentment in Christ. Whenever you seek Jesus you'll find joy and contentment. She's always had a relationship with Jesus she's had to fall on her face to seek Him in ways she never has.

Chronic Illness (25:00)

Mandy opens up about her diagnosis from Mayo Clinic. Initially she was diagnosed with fibromyalgia and chronic fatigue syndrome and other smaller things that fall underneath that but she's grateful to God for recent discoveries that are helping give her functional medicine doctor more insight to what my be going on.

Healthy Living (29:30)

Before addressing the healthy living factors Mandy wants to address your heart to make sure that you know that God sees you and that you're not alone.

Connie Tresedder is a joyful and energetic lover of life. She is an expert at teaching people to control worrisome, stressful thoughts. She has taught at the college level for over 20 years inspiring her students to believe in themselves and discover their true purpose. Connie has also coached people for years helping them to hear God’s voice and giving people tools to re-wire their brains so they can control negative thoughts.

Faith Story (4:12)

Connie's been a teacher most of her life teaching at the college level, youth group, children and women. She says she used to struggle with low self-esteem because grew up with an alcoholic father and didn't feel valued. Her family didn't attend church and in 5th grade a friend from school invited her to VBS when she invited Jesus into her life. She ended up going to church with that family because of them including her and welcoming them into their home.

Impacting Others (7:50)

Connie talks about how right she's passionate about helping people break through roadblocks that's keeping them from their God-given purpose. It doesn't matter what age someone is, they're not too old or too young to have a purpose. Letting God shift and turn us in a new direction isn't as scary as it seems. It's worth taking a leap of faith and opening ourselves up to God's plan.

Getting Unstuck (12:50)

Connie says she helps people get unstuck and a lot of times people don't even know they're stuck. There could be an experience in childhood that's impacting them as adults. Through conversational prayer God shows up and helps reveal what's impacting the person.

Neuroplasticity & The Brain (15:40)

God is our creator and he knows exactly how he created our brains. Thanks to research done in neuroplasticity and brain science, we can change our brain and our brains change because of the way we think. Sometimes we have to go deeper because the brain is wired and will take the path of least resistance but we can rewire them.

Carrie Robaina is a podcaster and entrepreneur wholeheartedly believes in living with purpose. One of her greatest joys is inspiring and encouraging others to live a healthy, joy-filled and intentional life in Christ. In this episode we tackle what it means to take up your cross and following Jesus based on Matthew 16:24-28. Grab your Bible, pen and journal and let's dive in!

Jul 30, 2018

Phylicia Masonheimer is an author, speaker, and founder of Driven Women. She teaches strong-hearted women how to follow Christ’s call in work, home, and the world. She writes about the Bible, productivity, and sexuality on her website. She’s also written a book called, “Christian Cosmo: The Sex Talk You Never Had.” Today she joins the show to talk about the impact or pornography and erotica on woman as well as shares her testimony and how God is using her story to tell His story.

Faith Story (2:30)

Phylicia shares her faith story. At the age 12 she discovered a neurotic novel at a garage sale and didn't know what it was or what sex was because she never had a sex. It started a struggle with pornography and sexual sin until her early 20s. It also impacted her walk. Now that she is free walks alongside other women who have the same experience.

You're Not The Only One  (5:03)

If you struggle with this...you're not alone. Phylicia shares how talking about sexuality is a continuous conversation; not a one thing at the age of 12. We talk about how the church is beginning to have these conversations which is encouraging. Wherever there is sin that is tied to sex there is shame because the enemy wants to twist sexuality as young as possible in order to hinder them from beginning it into the light.

Not Only A Man's Issue (8:30)

This is something many women struggle with. Too often the church addresses as it as a man's issue when really the number of porn users who are women is 30-40% and the number of those addicted to erotica is the same. Sexual sin is a spiritual battle fought only by implementing many standards. Until you address the spiritual battle first. It's also important to remember it's a long-term battle.

Parents Whose Kids Have Been Caught Using Porn (11:54)

The conversation about sex is never easy. The first thing you can do is make them feel secure and that you're not going to reject them...that you're going to help them. The initial step of revealing shame is the hardest. Start from a place of love and grace; especially if they're you're child. Then take a look at how Jesus dealt with shame. He always looked at them with love and grace before he told them to go and sin no more! For everything negative you take you need to replace it with a spiritual truth.

Strong Women (15:34)

Phylicia says growing up that being a "strong woman" was equated with being a feminist. She honestly believed that in her teens. Felt that she needed to get married and find her identity in her husband. Through studying what Scripture said she discovered that being a strong woman is not negative as long as your strong will is bent to the will of God you can accomplish more for than ever managed.

Breaking Free From Legalism (19:00)

A lot of times the Bible is used in support of being a wife and mother. In environments when we see a legalistic view of womanhood, it's supported without regard to culture context and all of Scripture. It's possible to honor your marriage, church, God's word          and to  still honor God in the strong way he made us.

Breaking Free From Legalism (23:45)

After some blog readers sent Phylicia an article about how Christian men prefer women who don't have debt, are virgins and without tattoos. This article said women should not go to college and the husband would have to undo what they learned. Phylicia wrote a rebuttal article here because the article was not a good representation of Christ and the gospel.

They became sponges for the word of God and everything changed.

Jodie talks about Dino being woken up by Holy Spirit and the Lord gave Dino the name and mandate for their ministry to restore the face of the family.

More Than Checking Off the Sunday Box (5:37)

Carrie Robaina is a podcaster and entrepreneur wholeheartedly believes in living with purpose. One of her greatest joys is inspiring and encouraging others to live a healthy, joy-filled and intentional life in Christ. In this episode she tackles a sensitive subject within the Evangelical church today: Is it Biblically okay for women to teach and preach to both men and women inside the four walls of the church? Join the conversation!

Personal Testimony of Roles of Women Church (2:54)

In this segment Carrie shares about her experience with the roles she saw women playing inside the four walls of the church and how it impacted how I viewed the spiritual teaching and preaching of women.

These verse I was mostly always referred to against women teaching and preaching.

Ministry of Jesus and Paul (11:15)

In this segment I share some examples from Scripture about how Jesus regarded women as well Paul and the women who walked alongside Paul. Women like Mary who broke social norms by sitting as Jesus' feet to learn when culturally a woman would never be allowed to sit at the feet of a rabbi to learn. What did Jesus do? He praised her.

Then there's Paul. He's stereotyped as an Apostle who disregarded women mostly by his teaching to the Corinthian church in 1 Timothy 2:8-13. The reality is, when we look at this life, he ministered alongside women.

What are some of the key things to point out? Our identity as men and women as being one in Christ Jesus.

"There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free, there is no male and female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus." Galatians 3:28

What I am concluding is that in regard to the spiritual gifts, including teaching and preaching, they aren’t divided by gender (or social class, ethnicity, economic status, etc) but by the Spirit as he wills (1 Cor. 12:4-11) just as our identity is as on in Christ Jesus.

Gender is not intended to be a barrier or limitation to one being able to follow and exercise the calling of God.

Having said that, our goal as men and women of God isn’t to compete over gender roles as the secular world does.

The goal of the church is to “advance the Kingdom of Christ as fellow heirs of the grace of God (Alan F Johnson).”

Prayer of Blessing (21:00)

In this segment I share some examples from Scripture about how Jesus regarded women as well Paul and the women who walked alongside Paul.

Carrie Robaina is a podcaster and entrepreneur wholeheartedly believes in living with purpose. One of her greatest joys is inspiring and encouraging others to live a healthy, joy-filled and intentional life in Christ. In this episode she tackles body image. Join the conversation!

Getting To The Heart of Body Image (1:00)

The words we speak and think are like little seeds that take root in our heart. They’ll either produce good fruit or bad fruit.

Fearfully and Wonderfully Made (6:54)

God didn’t just make. He made you wonderfully!!!!!

I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well.

-Psalm 139:14

Made In The Image of God (11:00)

Genesis 1:27 "So God created mankind in his own image, in the image of God he created them; male and female he created them.”

Fear of man can steal Perfectionism, insecurity, Dezerai opens up about a couple of dynamics on her faith journey. She said if she brings her focus back to the Lord, everything else seems like it's not as big of a deal.

1 Thessalonians 1:4 "For we know, brothers and sisters[a] loved by God, that he has chosen you,..”

When the world floods in and tries to tell us who we aren’t, God wants to remind us who we are…chosen children of God!!!

Romans 12:6 "We have different gifts, according to the grace given to each of us. If your gift is prophesying, then prophesy in accordance with your faith;..”

You were made to function exactly how you were made to function.

God’s Masterpiece (21:24)

Remind yourself that you are God’s masterpiece and how beautiful you truly are.

Ephesians 2:10 "For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do."

Dezerai Seitzer is a speaker and blogger whose mission is to speak God's truth in a way that challenges, excites and motivates women to know God more intimately, to understand His word more fully, and to be unafraid to live who He created them to be.

Faith Story (1:00)

Dezerai came to know the Lord since she was 6 years old and has followed him ever since. She says when she has walked away he's been so kind to love her. Dezerai also shares how she's a 4th generation Christian and her Great Grandmother was saved by a brave woman pastor at a tent revival meeting.

Speaking the Truths of God's Word  (4:31)

Dezerai is passionate about sharing with women how they are "enough" to serve how God's called them to. There was a season when she thought her gifts came too easily and began to seek out other gifts. The Lord has brought her back to speaking and writing and wants to remind women who God is and who we are to God.

Finding Your Worth In the Lord (8:37)

Dezerai's biggest encouragement for women is to take and set aside time to be with the Lord. It's a scared time and as we spend time with him the outside voices become quieter and we can clearly hear who God is and says she is. The only place we can find the confidence in God. How do we get more confidence? Spend more time with God and understand who he is.

Hearing From God (11:30)

God is so faithful that if we seek Him we will find Him. Hearing God's voice. God confirms his speaking to us many ways including through His word as well as through other brothers and sisters in the Lord.

Staying the Course (21:11)

Dezerai opens up about a couple of dynamics on her faith journey. She said if she brings her focus back to the Lord, everything else seems like it's not as big of a deal.

Running the Race Set Before You (26:03)

Dezerai says she grew up being told women couldn't be pastors or preach which was in conflict with what her gift was. We are all called to preach the Word in whatever capacity God has called you to. She encourages women to really pray hard in to it and seek out a place where you can use your gift.

LaToya Edwards is a Christian life coach and writer. She helps Christian women strengthen their faith and deepen their relationship with God so they can walk victoriously through trials, knowing God is with them, every step of the way. Through her blog, Women Finding God, she encourages women to grow closer to God through consistent Bible study and prayer.

Faith Story (1:14)

LaToya shares how as a little kid she loved going to church and found so much joy learning about God. As a military kid here family moved around a lot and once her dad retired and they settled, she found herself pulling away from church because she felt like she didn't fit into the mold of the church her family started going to. LaToya says she didn't pull away from God but didn't want to have anything to do with the church. The result? She ended up being a tool of the enemy. Struggling through an abusive marriage is finally what caused LaToya to go deep in relationship with the Lord.

Trusting God In Hard Times  (10:20)

LaToya talks about how there was a point in her life when she left it up to others to tell her about who God is, but the turning point was when she decided to dig and learn for herself. LaToya believes that if women understood the truth about God and the truth about yourself then you become unstoppable!

Meaningful Quiet Time With The Lord (14:48)

LaToya shares one of her favorite passages from Scripture and how God is there even in the mundane. She loves to encourage women to use the pockets of time they do have available to connect with God in a meaningful way.

Kristin Schell is on a mission to love her neighbors. She put a picnic table in her front yard, painted it turquoise, and began inviting neighbors, friends, and even strangers, to hang out and do life together at The Turquoise Table. As founder of the Turquoise Table and Front Yard People movement, Kristin travels the country speaking at conferences and events with an encouraging word on how to open our lives and homes to others.

Faith Story (1:49)

Kristin's testimony is the backdrop and preparation God used for the story of The Turquoise Table. In middle school Kristin was beat up so her mama pulled her from school and enrolled her in a parochial school where she wasn't allowed to participate in the daily church service. Other events developed during those years that led to Kristin walking away from Jesus. Spoiler alert! She found her way back to him after a friend in a foreign country invited her to church and she realized that the Lord had been there all along.

Encouragement For During The Journey (9:20)

Kristin offers encouragement to women who are in the midst of the struggle to not fall into the trap of comparison when they hear someone else's story. There's a story that isn't mine but shows those good and Godly characters I know to be true no matter what's going on your life.

The Turquoise Table (11:00)

Kristin talks about the story behind The Turquoise Table. She had a craving and wanted to share her story and Jesus with others. She often tried inviting people to church and many times it didn't work out. The table is almost like the Lord's way of saying, "Let's start at the beginning and keep this simple."  She asked the Lord to teach her about hospitality, outreach and loving others.

Testimony (1:20)

1:20: Alexandra shares her faith story of being saved during her Sophomore year of college. Friends were always inviting her to church and Christian events and she went though she didn't know why. During that time she came to know the Lord and after that the relationships with her family changed. She also talks about how another student kept taking his Bible to class which stood out to her.

Next Steps  (9:27)

Getting involved in a local church was a big part of Alexandrea developing in her faith. She encourages college students especially to get involved in local programs on campus to help grow.

Being Newly Married and Being In Business (11:58)

Hannah talks about how good friendships are similar to how Gladiator's train. They train with other gladiators who are willing to hurt them but not kill them. She feels friendship is the same thing.
