Rachel Wathen is a young woman filled wisdom and passion for cultivating family. Today she joins the show to share on challenging dynamics she went through when fighting off a sickness, to teach listeners how to overcome hard times, and so much more. Stay tuned for a sweet and joy filled conversation with Rachel and Carrie!

Introduction to Rachel Wathen (2:15)

Rachel’s parents were raised in the catholic church and at about 23 years old they were introduced to the Holy Spirit. Being introduced to the Holy Spirit brought them into deeper relationship with the Lord, so from the get go Rachel had an awareness of who God was. She is the youngest of four children and her siblings have helped create a solid foundation in her life.

Rachel Today (4:15)

Rachel graduated college about a year ago, was a nanny for some time, and currently is an instructional assistant for students with disabilities. Her older sister recently had a baby and most of her free time is spent holding that child!

Chosen (5:30)

All of Rachel's siblings have chosen the Lord at one point or another in their life. Together, they feed off each other and it allows them to learn more. How beautiful!

Wisdom Comes Through Experience (7:15)

Wisdom does not solely come from age, rather it comes through experience. The Lord promises we would go through hardships and what we have gone through as individuals is not depicted in our age. There is no mini holy spirit or mini God, all of this is available whether we are young or old.

Specific Plans (9:30)

The Lord has something specific He wants to teach each of us. Just because believers will learn lessons at different times, doesn't mean we’re in better or worse places with the Lord. It’s all about the personal relationship we have with God and He knows what we need most.

Value of Vulnerability (10:30)

It's okay to rest where you are and not be afraid to verbalize it. Rachel has had a lot of different health issues that started once she was out of high school. From hormone imbalances, to parasites, to E. Coli, to scoliosis, it’s been constant challenges for quite some time. Ironically, her biggest fear up to this point had been getting sick. Through these difficult times it has shown her every single day she has a choice to sit in fear or to give her weakness to the Lord and trust that He is there to comfort her.

Father of Healing (12:05)

God is the Father of healing and He is sovereign no matter what. Healing can look different than what we expect and that is okay. Through extended periods of health issues, God may be doing a work in your heart. May we always keep an open mind that God only has good intentions and knows best.

He Doesn’t Change (13:00)

Rachel shares how the Lord called her to come home part way through her college years. In this time home she lacked community and felt as if life was mundane and purposeless, but through this God became more of a dependence. No matter what kind of numbing or lack or purpose you may feel, it’s important to dig into God. Our feelings or experiences do not change the truth of who God is, may we embrace that wholeheartedly.

Hidden Weeds (14:30)

The wounds of our childhood can cripple our adulthood, let’s not have past hurts hold us back. Today is a great day to weed out those past hurts, for there is more life and freedom in store for you. Rachel describes our hearts like a beautiful garden with weeds that need to be pulled out. Every single thing we go through in life gives opportunity for a flower to bloom and more room in the garden to be taken up by something healthy and living. We aren’t promised tomorrow, take the opportunity to grow and heal today!

Confronting Fear (15:55)

Carrie asks Rachel to share more on how she confronted the different health issues coming at her. Rachel mentioned in the beginning of her health issues she was wondering why her biggest fear in life was taking place. There were so many questions with little to no answers. It was a word from a woman at a bible study, prayer, and Jesus that allowed her to press on and accept that God is abundant and good no matter what. Knowing who He is wouldn’t change regardless of circumstances, gave Rachel the peace she needed to carry through and overcome.

Choosing to Trust (19:00)

It's in our best interest to trust the Lord. Our trials often times will bring us to a place of dependence and needing God on a deeper level.

Feast with Truth (20:00)

Our mind feasts with what it focuses on, that’s why it’s important to speak life over yourself regularly. While feelings of hardship are certainly valid, don’t stop there. One way to feast with life is by simply rejoicing this is a day the Lord has made and to be glad in it. See Psalm 18:24 for a biblical reference.

Faith is a Choice (21:00)

Letting fear become greater than faith is a choice. May we let this sink into our hearts today.

God Breathed (24:15)

Scripture is God breathed and will not change while this world is wavering and changing all the time. We have no idea what tomorrow will bring, so let us be diligent to soak in His truth and promises everyday. Write it out, let it filtrate through your mind, fill yourself with it every and anyway!

A Beautiful Challenge (25:00)

As believers we are called to take scripture literally. It can make things more difficult to hear and accept but at the same time it also makes things about who God says we are so much more beautiful. The bible is just an account of all the amazing things Jesus did while here on earth. There is so much more in store for us to discover!

Be Encouraged (27:00)

Whatever you’re going through Rachel’s heart goes out to you. Similar to the biblical times of people fighting for the promised land, today is a fight to battle for the Kingdom of God. Keep fighting, keep pressing, don’t give up, friend! The fight is worth it, God’s promises are true, and He will see things through in His perfect timing.

Wendy Henley is a woman of God and kingdom entrepreneur where she and her husband use their business to love the corporate realm in unique ways. Listeners on the show today will be encouraged, equipped, and challenged to make a kingdom difference in your work life too.

Introduction to Wendy Henley (1:35)

Wendy is a wife, mom, and a teammate with her husband in the mortgage company and culture. She and her husband recently opened Trinity Oaks Mortgage company and feel God has honored this opportunity to reach people for Christ.

Forerunners in Kingdom Business (4:10)

Trinity Oaks Mortgage company sets an incredible example for so many other business on how to bring the kingdom of God into the workplace. They have four core values such as honest communication, second mile service, relentless pursuit of excellence, and generous love, all based on God’s truth. On top of living out these four core values, Wendy and her husband make an effort to hand out bibles to customers after they have honored them in the mortgage services.

Blessings in Real Estate (5:30)

Carrie shares how a Christian real estate agent greatly blessed her and her husband Ricardo when they recently had been looking to purchase a new home. She noticed the real estate agent seemed to care more about her as a person rather than how much money they could get from the business itself.

Stop for the One (7:45)

Jesus stopped for so many individuals, so should we! It can be intimidating to be courageous like offering to pray for people or sharing the gospel, however there is great fufillment when we do step out.

Trust in Him (10:40)

When we are called to something we must trust that God is going to make a way. If God has placed something on your heart such as handing out bibles in the workplace, you will never know it’s impact unless you give it a try.

No More Fear (11:45)

We don’t have time to let fear rob the joy from ourselves or for others, it has no right to dominate us. Overtime Wendy has learned to love sharing the joy of the Lord with folks around her. At first this used to get her nervous but now, she’s learned people want to know that you care. Little things like stopping for a server and asking if they need prayer can make a huge difference in someone’s life. What are some things you can do to make a positive impact on someone today?

Honor Him (14:00)

God is the one who accepts us, redeems us, and calls us back home. Because of who He is, we have a responsibility to honor Him in all we do.

Ambassadors of Christ (14:55)

We are ambassadors of Christ here and now, it is our privilege and responsibility to release that on earth. Believers do what we do because we desire to show God’s heart to the world around.

Fruit of the Kingdom (15:30)

God’s kingdom is peace, joy, righteousness, and love. Fear can rob us of so much joy and we need to be careful to not make things up in our own mind that would strip us of God’s peace.

Wendy’s Faith Story (17:15)

Wendy always felt like she had a connection with God. She was baptized catholic and at 13 years old, accepted Jesus as Lord and savior over her life. From an early age she wanted the fullness of Christ and nothing less. This carried on throughout her teenage years and at 19 years old she was able to attend a great church that allowed her to grow in a love for the word.

A Call to Encourage (19:00)

At 21 years old, Wendy was baptized in the Holy Spirit. In this, her relationship with the Lord seemed to go to a new level. Wendy started to have more spiritual dreams, discernment, and words of encouragement to share with others. To this day she loves to call out the gold in people, bringing hope and the love of Christ to all.

Stepping Out (21:00)

Wendy knew God was asking her to speak into people’s lives more so she started to step out and do that. As she grows in stepping out she is also being moved to pray and intercede for specific people laid on her heart. As Wendy walks in more obedience to Him, she’s learned to become more and more available for God to move through her. When you know you’re encouraging people in the Lord, you want to move in it.

Hope in the Hearing Devotional (26:00)

Wendy knew God was asking her to empower other people and the Hope in the Hearing book is one way she is walking out obedience towards that. This devotional is different from other devotionals because it emphasizes the importance of being thankful and grateful. It is a resource intended to help keep a reader's heart open towards the Lord and the probing questions will help activate individuals faith on a continual basis. Uniquely designed, everyday of the devotional is working off the last which will empower the reader to move into a new level with the Lord, build hope, and to reaffirm God is speaking to us everyday. Anchored in Love (27:30)

Let’s be anchored in the fact that God loves you, He’s guiding you, and wants the best for all of us!

Activation is Key (28:30)

Our faith needs to be activated on a daily basis. It’s important to consume information and knowledge, but we need to be intentional about acting upon that too.

TJ Tison is a business leader, strategic adviser, and change agent within the small business sector. Passionate about empowering women to live and work with purpose and kingdom fruitfulness, TJ shares how we can make a difference inside and outside of the workplace, too!

Introduction to TJ Tison (1:45)

Carrie and TJ met at a Christian in Media event and reconnected at a series event Carrie led all about learning how to podcast. Upon meeting each other, they felt an immediate connection and hearing what God was doing in each of their lives inspired them. TJ has been married for almost 28 years, has two grown children, started a business which helps other businesses grow, and also works for Working Women of Faith. This business organization she works with helps women get real about their faith in the workplace.

Killing Wonder Woman Book (5:30)

Killing Wonder Woman is a book about setting weary women free to win at work and to soar in their faith. There are a ton of resources on how to be a godly wife and mother but not so many resources on how to be a godly worker. While TJ’s motivation to write this book came from her own desire to figure out how God wanted her to go about faith within the workplace, she also wanted to create a tool for women to discover who God created them to be and not who everyone expects them to be. There is so much freedom understanding how God wired us and this is a book that can help significantly with that. Interested in purchasing this book? Click here!

Grounded in Truth (8:00)

It’s so important to be grounded and rooted in our identity in Christ! If we are not rooted in who God says we are, that is setting ourselves up for coming into agreement of what is not real truth. Being reminded of who we are on a daily basis is a worthwhile investment.

Christ Identity (8:45)

Who Christ made us to be and His plans for us are so much bigger than we can think or imagine. We encourage you to hold onto that truth, friend!

God’s Girl (11:00)

We don't have to be like anyone else, we just get to be who God created us to be. You are unique, special, valued, and adored. Not only will God use the hard work you put in working on identity for the good of yourself, but he’ll also use it for the good of others!

Made to Thrive (12:15)

We’re made to thrive in all kinds of life circumstances. Jesus came not to make bad people good, but to make dead people alive! There is a joy we receive that surpasses understanding through Christ Jesus. He came so we might have life and have it to the fullest.

2nd Corinthians 10:13 (13:45)

2nd Corinthians 10:13 says, ‘We will not boast about things done outside our area of authority. We will boast only about what has happened within the boundaries of the work God has given us, which includes our working with you”. Paul the apostle seemed to be one who cared more about what God thought, than the opinion of others. Carrie shares how important it is to not compare ourselves to others, rather to focus on what God has called us to do and obey.

The Comparison Trap (14:45)

The comparison trap is something that can trap women from walking out their full identity in Christ. TJ shares some of her experience in this and believes that God has equipped her to be a teacher in unique ways, not needing to look the same or to compare herself to other teachers. When TJ realized she didn't have to look like everyone else as a teacher, she received so much freedom. When we know it’s all about Jesus and not us, that's where true transformation happens!

Different Giftings (18:00)

We all have different gifting's and purposes in this life! We need to be mindful of not comparing but rather spending that time to seek God on what those giftings are.

His Promises are True (20:20)

When God gives us a promise and calls us to something, He is the fulfiller of those promises. Our job is to trust God, obey, and go! Let’s be cautious to not try and fulfill those promises on our own time frame. It is His strength, not ours that gets us through each day.

Intentional Discipline (22:30)

Carrie shares what she’s been learning when it comes to making sure her heart is set in the right posture before the Lord. Often times we can go about our day missing God through it all. It’s so much better to stay focused on God and His intentions. One way we can do this is by being in God’s word, consuming it, and speaking in conversation with the Holy Spirit throughout the entire day.

Abide in Him (23:45)

Apart from God, we can do nothing. How amazing is it that the God of the universe wants to spend time with us?

Abundant Living (26:00)

We carry the spirit of God with us everywhere we go. When we walk out our faith every moment of our lives, this is true and abundant living!

Aug 5, 2019

Andrea Accola is a multi-passionate creative, a musician, and a fierce believer. She recently moved from the Minneapolis area out to LA to help cultivate the gifts God has given her. Listeners on the show today will be activated to use the gifts you’ve been given for the greater good, but first and foremost, to prioritize character over talent always.

Introduction to Andrea Accola (2:00)

Andrea grew up in Norway and at 8 years old moved to Minnesota with her family. She has always been creative and desired to be on the cutting edge of what was happening for as long as she can remember. Growing up, there was tension with her parent’s relationship which led her to feel like she couldn’t be creative. For a long time Andrea also ran from being a leader because she was scared of her own leadership. She gave her life to Jesus freshman year of college and from there, it was a radical transformation from drinking and smoking to being concerned about who Christ was.

The Epiphany (4:45)

When Andrea was at a party, there was a moment in particular where she wondered why everyone was here and what the point of it all was.

A Passion for Music (5:20)

Music is Andrea’s passion. She enjoys using this gift to impact people in a positive way.

Created to Create (6:00)

We’re all created to create. Whether it be the arts, communication, cooking, decorating, design, it’s all unique! How has God fashioned you to create?

Embracing the Gifts (7:00)

Andrea moved to LA to invest in a church called Mosaic. This church in particular, has a way of attracting many talented people, while helping to cultivate individuals particular talents in celebratory, yet humble way. To check out the message that got Andrea interested in the first place with Mosaic, click here.

Full of Talent (8:30)

When you’ve been used to being a big fish in a small pond, then switch over to being a small fish in a big pond, it can be a little daunting to say the least! Andrea shares that Mosaic church is filled with incredible talent and many of the people attending do not hide their gifts, rather they’re at home in them.

True Leaders (11:00)

Andrea shares how Mosaic church makes and effort to host an environment in serving one another. Leadership is not commanding people to do something, rather it is serving people and the needs at hand.

Humble Leadership (12:30)

When you serve people, naturally they will want to follow you. Great leaders are servants!

An Exciting Season Ahead (13:40)

There's something significant about being around people who have a large amount of influence, a wide network of connections, and many talents. Andrea is learning so much from people around her and is seeing God set her up with dreams that don’t just involve herself, but involve others all around.

Character Over Talent (15:00)

Andrea shares how important it is to prioritize character over talent. What if we got so lost serving other people’s dreams that we couldn’t even see our own anymore? You never know how God may move you in a certain direction when your heart is in a place to simply serve people.

Let’s Be Honest (17:30)

In order to grow in character we need to be honest with God about where we’re at. If we pretend to be okay when we’re actually not, we aren’t going to receive healing in the places that we need.

Psalm 94:9 (18:45)

At one point in Andrea’s walk with the Lord she came to this place of crying out and asking God where He was. After falling asleep crying one day, she woke up and decided to randomly open up her bible and came across Psalm 94:9. This bible verse says, “Does he who fashioned the ear not hear? Does he who formed the eye not see?”. This verse in particular, struck her heart in a way that she knew, God was always near.

One Turn Away (20:30)

God is just a turn away and that is a truth Andrea holds close to her heart.

Be Encouraged (20:50)

No matter how much pain you may be in, it's never justified to lash out at anyone. Letting God be your defender can be stunning. We have a choice to not be offended.

He Doesn’t Lie (23:15)

God does not lie for He doesn't know how to do that. What an amazing truth!

James 1:13-15 (23:55)

Carrie talks on a bible verse from James 1:13-15. It says, “when tempted, no one should say, “God is tempting me.” For God cannot be tempted by evil, nor does he tempt anyone; but each person is tempted when they are dragged away by their own evil desire and enticed. Then, after desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and sin, when it is full-grown, gives birth to death”.

He is our Defender (24:30)

We can know that God is fighting for us always. He’s enough and is our defender!

Jul 29, 2019

Rich Campbell is a counselor, life coach, and helper to many! Today he joins the show talking to us about counseling, the bible, the brain, and the mind. Stay tuned to learn how you can develop a healthy subconscious and belief system, and how to encourage your loved ones in that too.

Introduction to Rich Campbell (2:00)

Rich has a unique and eclectic background. At 16 years old, he became a Christ follower by watching Billy Graham on TV and grew in the faith by InterVarsity Christian Fellowship in college. It’s been an adventurous journey in his lifetime academically, family wise, and vocationally so far. Rich also shares that he’s noticed one season of life will often prepare us for the next season in life ahead.

Human Complexities (3:15)

Carrie and Rich chat on how the brain and mind work. Scripture has many different perspectives on it which Rich finds particularly interesting. When we dive deep into looking at the brain and how God made us, it’s incredible. In the space between our ears, God has placed 100 billion brain cells. There is more mathematical complexity in the space between our ears than there is in the known universe. Wow!

Created in God's Image (4:30)

The animals God created can build to a level of instinct but often times they don't create beyond a certain level of instinct, while humans do. God is a wonderful creator and he gave us a powerful organ called the mind, which allows us to create with intricate detail and imagination.

A Heart for People (5:30)

Rich has a heart to help people understand the way our mind works so we can know who God created us to be and so we can become the best version of ourselves. He’s learned a lot from journeying with people through life coaching and therapy.

Therapy and Life Coaching (7:00)

Rich does therapy and life coaching from the perspective of having vision and providing perspective on what it is that you’re thinking. He believes it’s important to know why we believe what we believe, for this propels us in everything we do.

Proverbs 4:23 (8:00)

Proverbs 4:23 says, “guard your heart above all else, for it is the wellspring of life”. Whether you believe you can or you can't, you're probably right. We need to be mindful of what thoughts we allow in our minds to circulate, and if those thoughts align ourselves into who God made us to be.

Find a Cheerleader (10:00)

It’s so important to have support and coaching to spur you on! Who are the people that encourage you to grow and believe in what you’re capable of? As much as we should be mindful about what others are saying, we should be mindful about what we are telling ourselves too.

Overcoming Challenging Relationships (13:00)

It’s hard to believe what we’re truly capable of when surrounded by negative people and challenging relationships. Rich suggests coming back to the root of it all asking yourself first, “why am I surrounding myself around these people?” We are meant to be valued and it is vital to surround oneself around people that see value in you if at all possible. At the same time, when working through changing a belief system, it may be helpful to have a coach or support to help you correct those parts of yourself wrestling to see your true worth.

Staggering Complexities (14:20)

The conscious mind can process about 2,000 bits of information per second and the subconscious mind can process about 4 billion bits of information as well. Beliefs about ourselves mostly reside in the subconscious part of our mind, that’s why getting to the root of our deeper belief systems and issues is crucial.

True Freedom (16:00)

True freedom comes when we find belief systems that don't line up, wrestle with it, and take our process to God.

Parental Wisdom (18:00)

Carrie asks Rich to elaborate on ways parents can help children develop a healthy subconscious. Rich encourages listeners to be mindful of what they are teaching their kids through words and by example on a daily basis. One way to be mindful of this is by taking a moment to picture your child being interviewed as an adult and the interviewer asking, “what's the most important thing your dad or mom taught you growing up?” What do you honestly think that picture would look like? We encourage you to be the example you desire for your kids to glean from!

Time to Reframe (21:30)

Reframing our thought patterns is a worthwhile investment. Rich shares several reflective questions to ask yourself to help foster an awareness of certain belief patterns in your life.

Resting in the Unknown (22:55)

Life doesn't always make sense and that is okay. Often times we try to make sense of things that are beyond our ability to respond. It’s important to accept what can and can’t be understood in this lifetime.

Surrender (25:00)

Do you have a thought pattern or behavior you know isn’t life giving? If it’s not working, surrender it! Ask God for a new thought pattern, ask Him for help to develop that new thought pattern too. He is faithful.

Julia Winston is the CEO and leadership strategist at BRAVE Leadership consulting. She has worked for many individuals and corporations, holds two coaching certifications, and a masters degree in human resource development. Her passion is for kingdom women to rise in the workplace. Grab your pen and paper and take notes for what Julia has to say for how you can make a greater impact in the workplace too!

Introduction to Julia Winston (2:15)

Julia grew up in the church in the inner city of Baltimore, Maryland. At an early age she came into relationship with God based our of fear, afraid that if she didn’t do what was right, God may of come after her. As Julia grew in the faith she realized God was not this big man in the sky waiting to pound on her head, rather the trinity and love of the Father was beautiful.

Made for Relationship (4:00)

It was through Julia's relationship with Jesus that she really found who she was.

BRAVE Leadership Consulting and Kingdom Executive Unleashed  (5:35)

Julia helps Christian women rise to new levels of impact, influence, and income in their workplace. Some of her greatest spiritual advances came through work related things and she is passionate about helping women in this realm of influence too.

The Story of Joshua (7:00)

Joshua, the biblical character had a mandate to get up and lead people into the promised land and this was no easy task. Sometimes like Joshua, we are called to fight through seasons of life and different circumstances to help create a new standard, including helping others rise to that new standard too!

Catalyst to Spiritual Growth (8:30)

For some of us, our professional life is the very place God has in mind for us to grow spiritually too. God is calling some of us to the workplace not just to be there, but to actually have an impact, to have leadership positions, and to change industries with a kingdom focus. You are not alone in this and Julia is here to help you cultivate that calling.

Ambition Makes A Difference (10:15)

Ambition is not a bad word, God has given us ambition for a reason. The enemy has a bad habit of taking anything good God has created and tries to kill, steal, and destroy any part of it he can. In many ways, it seems ambition for women has been stolen by the enemy. As professional, Christian women in the Church, sometimes we’ve been told that we can’t work, rather we should be a stay at home mom or that we need to tone our spirituality in the workplace down. This is simply not true and it’s time to take our ambition back!

The Deborah Dilemma (13:45)

Deborah was a woman in the book of Judges who was a professional, military strategist to the king, a spiritual leader, a wife, mother, and prophet of Israel. There was no indication that these different roles she had clashed, in fact it seemed like she did great! Jael, is also a woman in the book of Judges who had a leadership role outside of the house. Both of these women who worked inside and outside of the home were used in tandem to accomplish God’s will. This is the same for today, be who God created you to be, not what your culture says you should be!

Inspired (15:00)

Carrie shares how she used to feel like she had to tone down her passion for business within the church four walls. Julia’s encouragement to be who God created you to be, not what the culture says, inspired Carrie to embrace the role she has in business no matter what.

Raising Up His Daughters (16:00)

God is in the process of raising up His daughters and is using Julia to help steward that in mighty ways.

Greater Impact (18:45)

In order to make a greater impact, as women in the workplace we need to rise in greater influence. One way to gain an influence is by going in with the heart posture of serving those who are in your industry.

Problem Solved (20:00)

Because Joseph and Daniel in Biblical times solved some major problems, this allowed them to have a greater impact and influence. When you make a positive impact, often times opportunities will come to speak into people’s lives spiritually.

Acronym for RISE (22:30)

Julia shares on what the acronym for RISE stands for. The first letter “R” stands for “Realize your divine mandate for work”. We will never understand our purpose apart from God so in order to find that purpose, we must seek God first and that's on us to do.

"I" in RISE (25:30)

Take inventory of your tool kit and spiritual gifts. What gets you passionate? Ask God what He would like you to do with those passions.

"S" in Rise (26:45)

Serve your industry. God did not place you in the workplace just to complain, you are there to serve the people you work for. We are made to serve our realm of influence with solutions. What’s a problem you can help solve with where you’re at today? Ask the Holy Spirit for help in this too!

"E" in Rise (28:30)

Enlarge your circle of industry. It’s important to widen your network of influence with people that can offer you wisdom, new connections, and encouragement. Make sure you have these types of people in your spiritual and professional life.

Great Provider (32:00)

When you are determined to find and fulfill the mission God’s given you, He’s obligated to provide resources for you in return! There is a favor from God on other people for the mission He’s called you to. Be encouraged, friend!

Fearfully and Wonderfully Made (33:30)

Let us disregard and cast off guilt about being working mothers and having ambition. If God has wired you this way, it is good. There is no glass ceiling in the kingdom and we have an audience of one before the Lord.

Speak Up (34:45)

If God has placed you in a position to speak, speak! It does not matter what the ratio of men to women is, speak up.

Free Training (36:45)

Are you interested in learning more about how you can rise to greater positions of impact, influence, and income at work without fasting, fighting or faking it? Check out this great resource here.

Importance of Identity (38:00)

It is so important to know whose you are and where you come from. Julia suggest for women listening on the show today, to write out an identity statement declaring who you are and who God says you are. When we know who we are in Christ, we are then able to walk into a room knowing that we’re there for a reason. True confidence comes from our perfect heavenly Father.

Kailey Mattarella is the founder of Joy Makers Project, a platform organization focusing on spreading joy in tangible ways through random acts of kindness and unexpected gift giving, all while encouraging others to do the same. Listeners on the show today will be empowered on how to be more outward focused in their everyday lives.

Introduction to Kailey Mattarella (1:50)

Kailey is 24 years old, currently living in Holland Michigan, working as the content manager for the She Walks In Truth podcast, and is in the process of building an organization called Joy Makers Project. Kailey has a passion for spreading tangible joy and sharing the Father's love to everyone and anyone around.

Practicing God's Presence (3:00)

In our everyday busyness of life, sometimes we are not aware of the presence of God. Carrie shares how it’s so important to be intentional in our walk with knowing He is here, He does guide, and He does place people in front of us everyday with great purpose in mind.

See the One (4:30)

Jesus was a master of one to one time with individuals. He knew the specific needs of their lives and took time to talk to them and teach them. Joy Makers Project tagline is “spreading joy, one person at a time”, and it is their goal to show people they are loved, seen, and valued.

The Background (5:20)

Kailey went on an 11 month mission’s trip this past year and during this time sought the Lord on different dreams and ambitions she had. One day she felt as if God asked her, “Kailey what would you be doing if money didn’t matter?” She thought to herself how cool it would be to spread joy in creative ways, and this is where the idea of Joy Makers Project first came about. We never know how one small act of kindness can change someone's day or change the trajectory of someone's life. Let’s be quick to help people feel noticed, cared for, and valued, all while pointing people to the source of true joy, that being Jesus Christ alone.

Dreaming into Reality (6:40)

Upon returning from the states, Kailey took a risk and pursued flexible, part time employment instead of getting a more secure job so that she could create space for growing Joy Makers Project and the ministry dreams God laid on her heart.

Finding the Name (7:12)

Kailey knew the name of her dream job would have something to do with joy in it, partly because that is a gift many people have called out in her and because of that, she desired to share that gift to the world. As Kailey had been exploring different name options, a close friend of hers one day said, “what about Joy Makers” which eventually led to the name, Joy Makers Project.

A Year of Discovery (9:35)

Sometimes we get so caught up in the details that we don’t actually move forward. God will give you what you need when you need it. Carrie encourages listeners to pay attention to what people say about you and who you are created to be, then take it to the Lord. Perhaps giftings people call out in you is something God is calling you into doing.

Spreading Joy (11:00)

A big part of Joy Makers Project is helping to equip people spread joy in creative ways. This ministry has done random acts of kindness at laundromats, parks, bus stops, and so much more.

Joy Makers Outreach (13:00)

Joy Makers Outreach is a space created for people to come together and spread joy in creative ways to the local community every Wednesday evening. Each outreach night has a unique theme and is structured into thirds. First, there is a time equipping and training, second, a time of going out and blessing the local community, and third, a time of coming back for a debriefing period to check in and see how that outreach experience went. Kailey has been able to spread the word about this weekly outreach by speaking at her local church as well as word of mouth.

Lifestyle Christianity (16:00)

People are craving community and Joy Makers Outreach provides something unique and different from a typical bible study. While bible studies are important, so is being sent out into the local community. God has commissioned us to go and share His love and make disciples. It’s so important to walk in that lifestyle of love!

Joy Story Cardstock (17:45)

Joy story cardstock is a resource for people who want to partner with Joy Makers Project. This cardstock is meant to be attached to any gift or random act of kindness someone does to help create a connecting point and way to learn more about this movement. Carrie shares several ideas on how listeners could spread joy. Want to purchase Joy story cardstock? Click here.

The Conspiracy of Kindness (18:00)

Random acts of kindness can do so much for a community and individuals. On average, it may take non believers five significant spiritual encounters in their life before they give their lives to Christ. Just one act of kindness can be one of those significant encounters a person may need. Kailey shares how the book called “Conspiracy of Kindness” has taught her so much when it comes to servant evangelism and the importance of blessing others in tangible ways. Want to purchase the book? Click here.

Partnership (21:10)

Coming alongside each other is so important and when it comes to spreading joy, more people on board the better! We encourage you to go and do your own random act of kindness then tag Joy Makers Project on Instagram or Facebook. Kailey shares that listeners can help grow this movement by purchasing joy story cardstock, subscribing to the weekly joy story emails, liking Joy Makers Project on social media, and spreading the word. Do you have an idea for Joy Makers Project? Feel free to reach out and share!

Joy is Contagious (23:22)

Kailey shares several special moments she's had so far when going out and spreading joy in her local community. The first story she shares is about a time that she went into a local grocery store and bombarded a bathroom with sticky note encouragement at 10:00 pm at night. While putting sticky notes on the bathroom mirror, one woman approached her and was touched, sharing that it was an answer to prayer to meet someone who loves the Lord and was doing something about it too. One more story Kailey had was about meeting a group of teenagers when dropping off 200 pennies at the wishing well in downtown Holland, Michigan. This group of teenagers were so inspired that one of the gals reached out several days later and shared that she was going to spread joy in her local community now too.

The Multiplication Business (26:45)

God is in the multiplication business and may we never underestimate what one simple act of kindness could do or how that may inspire another person to go out and do the same.

Support Joy Makers Project (27:00)

There are so many ways you can partner with Joy Makers Project. Whether that be through spreading the word, prayer, monthly financial support, or becoming a joy maker yourself, any involvement is helpful!

Sarah Kallies is seeker of truth, mental illness fighter, singer, and much more! Today she joins the show to equip the church on how to walk with people through all seasons of life. Listen and be blessed as Sarah openly shares her story.

Introduction to Sarah Kallies (2:15)

Sarah’s life is marked by a fierce love for Jesus. She grew up as a missionary kid having many international experiences and at 3 months old, her family moved to Israel. After living in Thailand for some time, she eventually made her way to Minnesota.

A Lifetime of Challenges (4:00)

From a very early age, Sarah was mentally ill. At age 13 she attempted suicide at a boarding school and her second suicide attempt took place when she was 19 or 20 years old. Sarah’s most recent suicide attempt was this past summer and on top of these challenging times, she was also sexually assaulted by a stranger in her young adult years. Sarah shares how many people within the church don’t quite understand how you can be walking with Jesus and still suffer severe mental illness.

Vulnerability Fosters Growth (7:00)

Sarah talks openly about her mental health problems because she desires to create a safe place for open dialogue to help others. Her heart is to be an addition to the church, offering open arms and an open mind to hear people out.

Contending with Mental Illness (7:45)

The word says when we come to God and ask, we will be forgiven and healed! Sarah used to say she suffered from mental illness but now she says that she contends with it. Check out Mathew 7:7 for a biblical reference.

People with Stories (8:45)

Sarah mentions that her time spent in a psych ward was one of the best places she could have been. She noticed the people who are sometimes stereotyped as the trash of society, are beautiful people with many stories, resilience, and experiences to share.

Identity in Christ (9:30)

Our identity is found in Christ, not in any mental illness a person may have!

Our Understanding is Secondary (11:00)

It’s okay to not understand it all. Thankfully, our understanding will always be secondary to the goodness of God! Sarah often times gets emails from people asking the big questions on why this is happening to her and how to make sense of it. She does not have all the answers either, but one thing Sarah does know is that her end point is complete healing.

Communication is Key (12:00)

We’re made to communicate, this is God’s heart!

Seen and Unseen (12:45)

Contending with battles seen and unseen is so important. Carrie elaborates on her thoughts with this.

Reaching Out (13:30)

Carrie poses a question asking for Sarah’s advice on what she would do if she were to see a new person sitting in the back of a church and how to best serve that person. Sarah mentions inviting someone to be in a small group can make a huge difference.

Servant Leadership (16:00)

Carrie shares her thoughts on how important the role of being a door holder or volunteer in the church is. Shout out to all the volunteers at church, thank you for your service!

A Love for Music (18:00)

When Sarah lived in Thailand, her dad would participate in massive crusades. In the times Sarah tagged along, she would get up on stage and sing "Jesus loves me" with the crowd. This is where her love for music started. Music is what also got her through difficult times while being abused at home.

Believing (19:00)

It wasn't until College Sarah believed singing was something she could pursue outside of church events. After several important conversations with people in her life, something sparked inside which led her to give music recording a shot. Since then, Sarah has recorded three albums and continues to pursue music recording as part of her vocation.

Purpose in Everything (22:00)

God can use us right where we’re at in the midst of any trial, fault, and sin. His grace is always there no matter what so be encouraged, friend! The farther your life has swung into pain, trial and heartbreak, the further it’s possible to swing the other direction into life, joy, peace and purpose. There can be a shift in your life, you’re not stuck!

The Heart Behind Singing (24:00)

Sarah has drawn from all of her life experience when it comes to writing songs and music. One gal in particular who was at her show years ago, reached out and mentioned how listening to her music helped save her life!

Power in the Testimony (25:15)

One way the Holy spirit can work in and through us is by sharing our testimony!

Opportunity to Know God (26:20)

Even in the hardest moments and struggles, we have an opportunity to know God in a new way. The power of our story can encourage others that they aren't alone. Though we have trials and hardships in life, rest assured that we get the honor of knowing Jesus and can still love and trust Him no matter what. He is faithful!

Hope (27:20)

No matter who you are or where you're at in life, God offers Hope. If we choose to cling to Him, our life is going to abound with more joy, love, and the ability to appreciate God’s grace more and more.

Caren Lee is a teacher, lacrosse coach, and lover of Jesus Christ. Today she joins the show to talk about the Father's love. Listeners on the show today will be encouraged to dig deeper into God's love for people all around.

Introduction to Caren Lee (2:20)

Caren is currently an 8th grade science teacher and passionate about helping people take authority over their minds and to know the Father’s heart for themselves and others. On a daily basis she seeks out the presence of God and does her best to listen to the Holy Spirit every step of the day. What a beautiful lifestyle she lives!

A Spiritual Journey (3:40)

Growing up in a home of divorce, challenges, and anxiety, Caren took on quite a bit at a young age. When she was 18 years, found herself at a Young Life camp where the gospel was shared and it floored her inner being. It was in that time she surrendered her entire life to the Lord. During college years, Caren struggled with depression but was radically healed after an evening of prayer with a group of people she was very close with.

The Heart of God (6:30)

When Caren was set free from depression, she learned the power of the holy spirit in such a tangible way! Through a series of events she desired to walk in step with the Holy Spirit everywhere she went and in that process she learned when it came to the Father's heart, no one needs to strive, rather we need to belong.

A Butterfly (7:30)

Caren shares a simple yet profound story on how God spoke to her through a butterfly she found in the sand. God was breaking her out of the darkness and bringing new life while using something as simple as a butterfly. How has God been speaking to you lately?

Heart Posture (9:30)

God doesn't want us just to help perform signs, wonders and miracles, He wants our heart completely devoted to Him!

Rest and Revelation (10:00)

After 5 school snow days this past winter, Caren had more down time than she expected in one week. Through this time of rest she received revelation from the Lord about creating, resting, and trying new things. Caren was reminded of how important it is to create and not limit the way we spend quality time with God.

Called to Create (12:00)

God is calling us to be creative and to trust Him with all the details of our lives. Creativity takes on so many different forms, may we never limit what that could look like.

Take Risks (13:45)

It’s so important to take risks in creating. Try something different, step into a new place of freedom! We encourage you to take an uncomfortable risk and see how God shows up in the process.

Friendship with God (15:00)

Carrie poses a question asking Caren to elaborate on a difficult dynamic she has personally gone through in her life that may resonate with other listeners. Rejection has been a result of many challenging experiences in Caren’s life from people she thought would never betray, leave, or treat her in a certain way. In this process of experiencing rejection multiple times, she learned over time what it meant to have friendship with God and how He would never leave or forsake her.

Resting in Grace (17:00)

Caren shares that she used to put intense pressure on herself to try and do everything right so that she could change a person or a situation. Lately, Caren has been undoing that belief system while learning how to receive that no one’s worth is found in what he or she can do but real worth is found in the Father’s love for us. Check out 2nd Corinthians 12:9 to read the verse connected to this insight.

Strength in Him (19:00)

Every time we try to do things in our own strength it’s not going to work out as well as it could have with inviting God into it all.

Psalm 45:10 (19:45)

If we look into the Father's eyes, we know that we don't have to strive anymore. Check out Psalm 45:10 to read the verse Caren referred to.

Authority Over the Mind (20:50)

The battle of the mind is a real thing! Through a season of disappointment, God gave Caren tools to take captive her thoughts. The power of Jesus Christ is incredible, may we receive that power through the way we think too.

Free (22:30)

We need to declare that every thought must bow down to the authority of Jesus in our life! When we fully repent from our thoughts we can be free from them.

Delight Ministry (23:30)

A big goal of this ministry was to empower women in going deeper with vulnerability in community, and to know the victory is found in Jesus Christ.

Holland Michigan Happenings (25:15)

Much of the church community in Holland Michigan seems to be focusing on house church development and discipleship. Though house church development may look different in other areas, the communities in Holland are interested in living a lifestyle of missions, doing life together, and laying their lives down for one another.

Be Encouraged (28:00)

Caren encourages listeners who are battling with a decision on what to do next or to take a risk wanting to do something different, to ask yourself, “are you seeking answers from God or seeking His face?” As we seek God’s face with all our heart, mind, soul, and strength, God will give you the answers you need. So go, be in his presence and ask God for the belief to know seeking His face is of most importance!

Miah Daniels is a friend, a woman of God, a wife, and a steadfast mother to four children. Today listeners will learn what it looked like for Miah and her family to leave a corporate job so they could pursue full time occupational ministry. There is so much to her story, we can’t wait for you to hear!

Introduction to Miah Daniels (1:30)

Carrie and Miah connected with each other through ministry work in the Minneapolis area several years ago. Miah is 43 years old and when she first met her husband, they knew almost immediately that they were going to get married. It was a beautiful time for Miah and her future husband to seek the Lord on what He wanted to do through their relationship.

A Restless Heart (2:30)

In the beginning of Miah and her husband Tim’s marriage, a small business was started and it flourished to the point they were able to purchase a beautiful home in the suburbs of Minneapolis. Miah and her husband were in this beautiful home for about two years then started to feel restless, so they began to pray.

Matthew 19:21 (4:15)

Jesus said to him, “If you would be perfect, go, sell what you possess and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; and come, follow me.” This was bible verse that weighed heavily on Miah and her husband as they sought the Lord in next steps when it came to ministry and calling in life.

Greater Things Ahead (5:45)

God is faithful! It’s more than okay to try new things. If a door closes, that often times means another door will open. Keep your chin up and remember whose you are.

A Willing Heart (6:30)

Miah shares a time that she felt the Lord ask if she was willing to give up everything for the sake of Him. Being completely transparent and honest, she told the Lord that she wasn’t willing to give up everything but to please help change her heart. Soon after, she noticed a transformation.

Encouraged and Inspired (8:00)

When Miah and her family hosted missionaries, there were several families that encouraged them so much. This challenged their family to consider more seriously the idea of selling their dream home to move into the city and pursue a life of ministry there.

Transitions (10:00)

If you’re a parent with children that have faced a lot of transition, don’t feel bad! There is a ton of growth that happens during these times and the Lord knows what your children need. Making sure to be intentional with taking care of your child’s heart in this time can be really helpful for the overall transition.

Dating with Purpose (11:00)

Miah and Tim dated with a purpose in mind and so did Carrie and her husband. Both couples married fairly quick!

You are Known (14:00)

God is God even when you’re disappointed. When we have expectations and they are not met, it can be tempting to take on rejection. If you are that person taking on rejection please stop right now, this is not who you are. You are known, seen, loved, and valuable.

On Her Knees (16:30)

When Miah went through a season of disappointment not understanding why she wasn’t getting the employment opportunities she hoped for, she had to make a choice between hopelessness and hope. Sometimes she would ask for prayer from co workers, other times she would dig deep into the word.

Be Encouraged (19:00)

If you’re feeling like a failure, we encourage you to get up and keep going. Set your gaze on Jesus because He is worthy of your trust!

His Promises (21:15)

God’s promises are always going to be true. Focus on this, even when you don’t want to!

Thanksgiving (23:30)

One way to fight off anxiety and fear is by giving thanks to the Lord. Even if it’s random things to be thankful for, that’s more than okay. None of us need to sit under anxiety, we have the power through Christ to bind up the spirit of anxiety and to walk away from it.

A Word of Encouragement (27:00)

Miah encourages listeners on the show today to pray for their spouse. May we never underestimate the power of prayer.

Slow Down (31:00)

It’s easy to get caught up in the constant busyness of life. Sometimes it’s a matter of slowing down and seeing how you can love the person in front of you.

Jun 17, 2019

Sara Shin is a leader and passionate follower of Jesus Christ. Today she joins the show to inspire listeners to dig deeper in God's heart for the nations. Stay tuned for an encouraging conversation between Sara and Carrie!

Introduction to Sara Shin (3:45)

Sara was born in South Korea, and moved at 10 years old to California with her family of four. While living in the states she went to school and graduated with a masters in environmental science and engineering. Shortly after graduating, Sara joined in on an 11 month mission trip that changed her life! Right now she feels called to South Korea for the time and is content to be there with her family.

Set Ablaze (5:00)

The Church is on fire in South and North Korea. When the gospel first came into Korea, people believe it first went through North Korea. Did you know some of the largest churches in the world are found in Korea today?

Sara’s Personal Faith Journey (5:45)

Sara was born into a nominal Christian family and lived that way until her college years. For a long time she felt empty inside and found herself getting more and more depressed. In her young adult years she thought that if she became a dentist making a good amount of money, that would bring her happiness. As she interned within the dentistry field, an employee at the office invited her to church. Through visits to that church and watching a friend’s life change 180 degrees, this inspired her to take God seriously. On the last day of college she decided to follow Jesus with all her heart.

Insane Courage (8:30)

Sometimes all it takes is a few seconds of insane courage to invite someone to church.

Led By God (10:30)

It was God who led Sara every step of the way while getting a masters in environmental science and engineering

Occupational Ministry (12:45)

Sara is currently in ministry related work. She has a huge passion for evangelism and that is why she went on several missions trips. Right now she feels God is teaching her the importance of missions, evangelism, and community.

Messengers of the Gospel (14:00)

One way believers can enter into gospel centered conversations with people from different cultural backgrounds is by asking if people need prayer for any particular type of reason. It’s so important people know when praying, they feel blessed! Sometimes when we pray, people can get physically healed, feel the presence of the Holy Spirit, or simply appreciate the blessing.

A Prepared Heart (16:00)

We should always be ready and prepared to give an account and honest answer for our faith!

Encouragement from Sara (16:45)

Sara encourages listeners to start stepping into more lifestyle Christianity beyond the four walls of the church. The worst thing that could happen with evangelism is someone gets to hear the gospel. We are not selling something, rather sharing life and love. This is not anything we need to make fancy or attractive, simply sharing your honest story about how Jesus has impacted your life will organically attract people to the gospel!

Have No Fear (18:00)

Don't let the culture or background people are in keep you from engaging in relationship! We are made to find Jesus in the cultures, for He is not in a box or a certain type of church we created.

The Creative Gospel (18:45)

One time while traveling through India, a friend of Sara's used Henna to draw out the gospel on a girls arm. There is unlimited potential on how we can share the good news to the world!

A Last Word (22:30)

Sara's experience of traveling in missions to all these countries is special, however missions is not defined by location or how much experience you have in it. Every moment of our lives is an opportunity for missions and ministry. Holy spirit is there to give us the courage to share anywhere and everywhere we go.

Available (24:30)

We have opportunity everyday to be the hands and feet of Jesus. May we keep our eyes peeled to go and share the good news!

Teresa Ann is the founder of Let's talk Teresa Ann show on Youtube, is a podcaster, and a dear friend of Carrie's. Today she was invited on the show to talk about something the Lord has asked her to do that is unconventional within the social media realm. If you’re a long time listener of the show you may be familiar with Teresa already! Stay tuned for one amazing interview where you will be encouraged and challenged on what’s about to be shared.

Introduction to Teresa Ann (2:00)

On top of being the host of Let’s Talk with Teresa Ann, Teresa also has a podcast with her daughter, Tristin. This podcast called “Oh...Teresa and Tristan podcast” is about encouraging listeners to shift their perspective to see with life giving eyes verses lack. To check this podcast out please click here.

Goodbye Social Media (3:00)

Teresa Ann felt a call from God to get off social media even though that is a huge part of her platform of influence.

Act of Obedience (5:00)

Teresa shares that through a series of wrestling back and forth, she realized she needed the Lord’s confirmation because it seemed to be very odd God would ask her to walk away from social media when at the time it was such a big part of her life! Though it felt odd at first, Teresa wanted to be obedient above all else and was expectant that God would show her something important from all of this.

Different Callings (7:00)

We all have different callings in this life and while God may call some people out of social media, that does not go for everyone. Some people are asked to stay and be a light in the midst of the social media realm. What’s important is that we listen to the Lord’s beckoning, then obey!

A Heart Transformed (8:30)

Teresa realized walking away from social media was not merely about social media, it was about Him wanting to expose her heart and how she was using social media to exploit something that was meant to be filled by God and God alone. Since Teresa has removed herself from social media, her eyes have been opened to see how much she had longed for the approval of man.

No Desire (11:00)

No longer does Teresa have a desire to be on social media in this season and time.

It’s a Process (14:00)

It’s a continual moment by moment process God wants to get those impurities out of us, in all areas of life! For a long time Teresa was allowing social media to be a security blanket and that is something she believes the Lord wanted to take away. It is the Lord’s kindness that leads us to transformation. God desires to take stuff out of us that doesn’t produce real, true, authentic, and pure fruit.

Known and Loved (16:00)

Teresa shares her process in discovering that the Lord may ask us to walk away from certain things not because he wants to punish us but because he wants freedom and liberation in our lives! God desires for us to be known in Him and find our worth and value in Him only. It’s a really beautiful thing when we can discover that for ourselves.

Conviction is an Invitation (17:45)

Conviction is an invitation to simply draw near to the one who loves us most! God is not condemning people when conviction comes, rather He is drawing us near to His heart. What an honor!

The Journey of Leaving Social Media  (19:45)

Carrie poses a question asking how the process has been for Teresa removing herself from social media.

Good Intentions (23:00)

We can overindulge in the things of God and not God himself. When Teresa would dive into things that are good but focused on that more than God Himself, it became an idol. As people in the church serving, we need to be cautious with what our eyes focus on, that we don’t focus so much on the things of God and forget to focus on God Himself. If we’re constantly going to those things because they are of God but still not God, where is our hope lying anyways?

Seek God First (25:30)

When we pursue God first, all of these other things follow. First seek the kingdom of God and all of his righteousness and all of these things will be added to you!

The Importance of Quality Time (26:45)

Face to face interaction is so important! Teresa shares how going off social media has realigned her relationships and priorities in seeing her loved ones and close connections face to face when possible.

Face to Face (29:30)

When you see people face to face you get to see the intricate parts of how God created that person.

Made for Community (31:30)

We were made for community and connection. It’s not always easy or convenient to meet in person but it is absolutely worth it!

Encouragement from Teresa (33:30)

Teresa encourages all listeners to keep seeking after God, to hear from God, and to be still. If you’re caught in a situation not knowing what to do, simply respond to the beckoning of God and remember He is God and watch what will unfold.

Chrystan Ferrell is an author, leader in the faith, and good friend of Carrie Robaina. She joins the show today to chat about a book they both have been working on called "Sister, Walk In Truth", which is now available for purchase on Amazon! Chrystan had a post go viral on social media several months ago and feels that God has called her into spaces where pop culture Christianity has missed the mark. Stay tuned for an exciting episode of She Walks In Truth where you will be challenged, encouraged, and inspired to press into the whole truth of God’s word!

Introduction to Chrystan Ferrell (2:30)

Chrystan shares that she is a daughter of the one true king and runs a nonprofit called Imperfectly Brave. She is a wife, mother, speaker, and a writer. She also has a social media ministry too called Real Raw Redeemed.

Sister, Walk In Truth Book (4:00)

Chrystan and Carrie originally connected over their passion to pursue God’s truth in today’s pop culture Christianity. They are both advocates for standing firm in God’s word and are weary of today’s modern culture seeming to blur the Biblical truth with what modern day culture says is truth.

True Connection Episode (6:30)

This past September, Chrystan was a guest for She Walks In Truth podcast which she shared on the topic of “True Connection”. If you’re interested in getting to know her story a bit more, check out episode 80!

Pop Culture Christianity (7:30)

Pop culture Christianity seems to be the river in between the worlds truth and God’s word of truth. Much of our culture has relied on pastors and other leadership to tell individuals what God’s word says which has led us to not getting into the word for ourselves. This causes an issue for everyday believers not knowing the difference between what God says for believers and what the world says. It appears to be there is a struggle where many believers are standing in the middle, confused on what the truth really is.

Vulnerability (9:00)

Carrie shares how vulnerable she felt growing up in regards to her lack of discernment and taking people for their word simply because they were in leadership. Later on she realized how important it is to discover God’s truth through her own studies.

Embracing the Tension (12:00)

Just because hard conversations makes us uncomfortable, doesn’t mean we shouldn’t have those hard conversations. Sometimes we are called to speak truth in love and we could probably all do a better job of that! We need to ask ourselves, are we going to go toward what itches our ears and suits our own passions or what brings the most glory to God?

Light a Fire (13:30)

Allow God’s word to light a fire in your life, not just going along with the trend of today!

Equipped (16:00)

Chrystan grew up in the church but her faith really took off when she was in her late 20’s. A while back she had a mentor challenge her to dig deeper into God’s word, which helped change her thinking from using scripture as a life line in emergency situations to being a guidebook and road map in her everyday life.

A Renewed Understanding (19:00)

Once Chrystan discovered the old testament was a neon sign pointing towards Jesus, it greatly shifted her perspective. She was then able to see the golden thread of God’s wild love for people all throughout the scriptures!

Behind the Why (21:00)

Carrie poses a question to Chrystan asking her to share why she went all in for heading up the “Sister, Walk In Truth” book.

Rallier of People (23:30)

God has given Chrystan the gift being a “rallier of people”. Investing time into co-authoring the new book and self publishing, has allowed her to exercise this gift and share it with others to make a greater impact.

Rejection (24:00)

Just because there will be a no to one opportunity doesn't mean God isn’t asking you to still move forward with that particular ambition. We need to be cautious in not taking rejection as a no because often times when one door closes another one opens, God knows best!

Alexis the “reader” (25:00)

Carrie and Chrystan chat about when they were co-authoring the book with other women together, they picked out a fictional character in mind to imagine reading the book one day. They named this reader “Alexis”, and Alexis represents the audience of women who desire to go deeper and know God for who He is, not what the culture is saying. Every chapter and every word of this book is wrapped up in prayer, God’s word, and passion for the whole truth!

Sister, Walk In Truth Book Details (27:30)

Jeremy Floyd was born and raised on the South side of Chicago, is a person who refuses to quit, aspires to inspire others, and hopes to make as many people possible smile in the process. Jeremy is someone God brought from self-hatred and big mistakes to finding purpose realizing God can take broken vessels and make us whole through Jesus Christ. Listeners on the show today will be challenged and inspired to walk away from fear and motivated to step into their God given purpose in this life.

Introduction to Jeremy Floyd (3:00)

Jeremy moved from Chicago to Minneapolis in 2009. He has a twin brother that passed away at age 13 and another brother six years older than himself. His life has been the epitome of never giving up. Having faced abuse, brokenness, and deep grief, Jeremy learned from a young age to be a fighter. Growing up amidst the chaos he also realized that he could distract himself and others with laughter.

Light in Dark Places (4:30)

God will still allow good to come out of dark places. Our gifts can be used and cultivated in the darkest of times! Jeremy has done a lot of suffering in life and through the trials it taught him that sometimes we have to fight, claw, scrape, get down and dirty before we will rise up again.

His Ways, Not Our Ways (5:45)

God is intertwined in every single detail of our lives. Through the years of suffering Jeremy went through in life, he came to a place where he was ready to surrender fully to God. Jeremy did not want to know God based off what others would tell him, rather he was desperate to know God for himself.

Becoming A Son (6:30)

There are over 7 billion people on this earth, and how amazing is it that God would be mindful to each of our hearts!  Jeremy shares God seems to be making up the time now for what he didn’t have with his dad growing up.

True Identity (8:00)

True identity comes from God. As we discover who God is, we discover who we are. Going hand in hand, as we discover who we are in Christ, giftings are also discovered within!

A Quest For True Love (11:00)

Jeremy searched for true love in places like drugs, sports, alcohol, self image, and sex for a long time. In his adult years he came to a point where he knew that he needed God more than anything else in this life.

A Deep Cry (12:30)

God is always in pursuit of us, He will answer our cries.

God is Good (14:30)

God is good and he always will be good. Jeremy desires to live the rest of his life helping people believe again and finding their true purpose.

Find What Matters (14:30)

As believers we are created to go against the grain of the culture. We are born to live for the Kingdom of God. What are you doing for the kingdom?

A Strong Voice (17:00)

Carrie takes a moment to thank Jeremy for being a strong voice, helping pave a path for others to follow.

The Solution (18:00)

Jeremy believes the only way many issues will get resolved today is by turning back to Christ. There is a difference between saying that you are a “Christian” and living ones life out as a believer.

Wrestling (21:00)

After fighting back and forth being frustrated with God and wondering why he’s had to go through so much suffering in his life, Jeremy remembers a voice saying “I can’t take something from you that you never wanted to give up”. In that moment Jeremy said “I surrender” and believed in his heart God could take a weak yes and turn it into a strong yes.

The Pursuit (22:30)

Carrie elaborates on the importance of knowing God based off personal experience rather than the experience of others. We are not meant to ride on the coattails of other people and unfortunately there are people in the church who have yet to receive this revelation. It wasn't until Carrie was challenged to go and share her faith to the world that she realized this for herself too.

Rise Up Church (24:45)

God is not a genie in a bottle, He is worthy of our full hearted pursuit and devotion. God is loving, but there are also things God hates. Everyday we are in a spiritual warfare, it is time for the Church to stand back up!

Walk Unchained (29:00)

Jeremy has chosen to embark on a walking journey from Minneapolis, MN to Santa Monica, CA starting June 1st, 2019. He will launch from the adult teen challenge center and the entire walking experience journey will be recorded. To follow along on the journey click HERE.

The Vision (30:00)

Jeremy had a dream of walking across the states since he was 10 years old but knew he wasn't old enough to go quite yet. At age 13 his twin brother passed away and knew that his parents for sure would not allow him to walk after that either, for they didn't want to lose another child. Fast forward years later, this past fall Jeremy found himself in his car praying and worshipping, and in that time received a vision from God revealing his calling and reminding him to do the walk across the states.

Moving Forward, Looking Backwards (32:45)

Often times God will prepare us for future endeavours without ourselves realizing it. Jeremy reflects back and sees how often he walked to places and had often asked himself “why do I have to walk so much”. Now he reflects on those past experiences and realizes there was always significance to it.

Childlike Wonder (33:00)

We were created to open our hearts to God. We were made to believe God could use broken people like ourselves to do mighty things in this world today!

Known (36:30)

In order to know our true selves, purpose, and giftings, we need to come close to God because he created us in the first place. For Jeremy, He discovered that he loves to make people smile and help people operate in their purpose. When he is making people smile and helping, that is where he feels most alive.

Find Your Purpose (39:00)

Jeremy cannot imagine dying and not doing what He was created to do. This walk is the start of a lifelong journey empowering and inspiring others to latch onto God and to find out what their purpose in this life is too. In this time of walking he will be making stops at rehab centers, youth homes, vlogging, and sharing the raw and real moments of everyday life on the ground. It’s going to be an amazing journey and we hope you choose to follow along too!

May 20, 2019

Emily Khouphongsy is a a mechanical engineer, a Michigander, and a current student in the propel women's cohort group at Wheaton College. Today Emily and Carrie chat on what the Bible says about the church and God's heart for the body of Christ. Listeners on the show today will be blessed as they hear Emily speak and as she shares her insight on God's intentions for the Church community!

Introduction to Emily (2:00)

Emily is originally from central Kentucky and now lives south of Ann Arbor, Michigan. She currently works in the field of Toyota research development as well as crash safety development.

Passion for the Church (5:00)

It’s so exciting to dig deep on what the church was designed to fulfill. Carrie and Emily chat on how the concept of communal support, worship, and accomplishing God’s work can be such a beautiful thing. Learning about how God intended to use the church is very intriguing to Emily and Carrie both. The Church has a purpose and we as believers should be passionate about fulfilling its mission!

The Word: Church (7:00)

Carrie chats about how she had never really studied the word “Church” before, but after her experience in learning what the biblical definition of church means, it impacted her greatly.

Ecclesia (7:45)

Ecclesia is the original Greek word used to describe the church by the new testament writers. They adopted this word from the original Greek language and culture. It was commonly used in classic Greek to refer to an assembly or gathering of people. This word is also used 114 times in the New Testament for a wide range of applications.

Dive In (11:00)

Carrie shares that it’s important to research the meaning of words found in the bible from a historical context.

We Are the Church (12:00)

The Church is not simply a building, the body of believers is what makes up the church!

Marked by Love (14:00)

Emily shares her realization that when we represent Ecclesia with English words we actually dilute and shift our view on what the origin of this word means. It is the way we look from the outside is what defines us as Christ followers.

True Identity (16:00)

Our identity is in Christ, not where we worship, where we go, not by a name of a church or a denomination. We are marked by the fruit of what we do, it’s that simple. If as believers we could see the church as people rather than buildings, we could take more ground for the kingdom!

Religion (17:00)

Religion and church are not the same thing. The church is not a group of people that follow a bunch of rules, but rather we are a people who follow Christ because of our love and devotion to Him.

A New Language (19:15)

As believers in Jesus we don’t follow religion, we follow God. Church is meant to be a community of people living out the calling of God. It seems to be that our language of what the word “Church” is known for in the western culture is inappropriate. It would be better to say we are going to worship with the church or we are going to spend time with the church rather than saying we are going to church.

Real Church Fruit (21:00)

Emily elaborates on 3 main categories of what she believes the Church should consist of:

  1. The fundamental concept of evangelism in that we are called to share the good news of Jesus Christ, and to make disciples.
  2. The concept of gathering the nations in that the Church is called to gather everyone up on a global scale.
  3. The concept of bringing God’s kingdom to earth. As followers of Christ we are meant to prepare the kingdom for Jesus’s return. This involves restoration, healing, redemption, and reinstating peace and security for others. We are here to also help people be restored personally or through relationship.

All of this means we are pursuing to live out God’s original design for the kingdom!

The Basics (24:00)

We have a tendency to over complicate church. Breaking it down, we’re called to share and to be the good news. We’re called to usher people into the kingdom. We are also called to be known by the love we share as Christ followers, united by the Holy Spirit because of what Christ did for us.

What is the Church (25:30)

It’s extremely important for followers of Christ to think about what the Church is. We’re meant to be a people moved by the experience of Jesus. We respond with a desire to share the good news of what we’ve experienced with others, to make disciples, and to commune with God. When we do this we become an “Ecclesia”, moved by the experience of God. People are watching and listening, may we not take this reality lightly!

A Reflection on the Church (31:15)

In reality, our daily actions reflect the Church. Carrie shares that she wants to see the church for who we are and what we represent rather than what we’re against.

Encouragement from Emily (32:00)

Emily encourages listeners to ask yourself why we serve, what we serve, and what our role in the body of Christ is as God originally intended? It’s in all our best interests to take a look at the original definition of the church and allow that to motivate us in how we act and serve!

Lila Hermosillo is a mentor, culture changer, and advocate in ministry for the young adult and college student populations.  She helps connect students to the Father through the latino culture. Anyone listening today will have their eyes opened to the significance of what culture one is raised in, and how we can use it for greater impact all around.

Introduction to Lila Hermosillo (2:00)

Lila currently lives in San Jose, California, and has been surrounded by the hispanic culture her entire life. Her parents were born in Mexico and she also graduated from San Jose State University, where her spiritual journey really took off.

A Testimony (3:30)

Before Lila was born, her family was invited to a new church, which her family still goes today. Lila grew up going to church yet she saw it as boring. She knew a lot about God and his love, but it wasn’t until she was a teenager that she started to really discover what faith was all about. Through various experiences, she also saw a lot of brokenness in the church, and decided she would only dip in a little bit with the whole church scene, but still wanted to be a good person.

The Wrong Seeking (6:00)

Lila fell into seeking affirmation and affection into places she should not have. She started to confuse friendships with how it could make her feel better which eventually led into a relationship with a girl.

A Good Fight (7:30)

Lila battled struggling to be obedient to God’s will for a little over a year.  She was happy, but knew it wasn’t God’s plan for her life. Very soon after that things ended, and Lila felt worthless. She felt undervalued and was hungry for affirmation.

A Special Wednesday (8:00)

After a conversation with a friend Lila broke down and released everything that had been on her mind and heart. In that same time, she asked God to come into her life where she said “I am yours, you are mine”. This was the moment that Lila’s life turned around.

Vulnerability (11:00)

God will use our brokenness and sinful nature to bring glory and freedom to all kinds of people. If it's just one person’s life that is impacted for the better, then it’s worth it!

Walk in the Light (12:00)

We are meant to walk in the light. We are never meant to sit in isolation. Lila encourages listeners to let someone know what’s going on, to let them be trusted, and to ask for help. Community is key.

Walk in Love (14:00)

God is the one who solves the problems, not us! Keep your eyes out for people who are reaching out or may just need a listening ear.

Destino (15:00)

Similar to Campus Crusade, Destino is a ministry that promotes the Christian faith. Lila is currently working on campus as a mentor for people walking in their faith and growing.

The World Race (17:30)

The World Race is an 11 month mission trip Lila went on about 2 years ago. In this time she discovered how much she loves teaching the bible and seeing freedom happen. Lila’s desire is to see people truly know God. She wants to see chains broken and for people to truly love the Lord with all their heart, mind, and soul.

It Takes All Of Us (22:45)

Diversity is a beautiful thing! We can see a piece of God’s character and heart through it all.

Know Your Self Worth (24:00)

When we don’t know who God has called us to be, we fall into the wrong places. He knows your every need and thought. It is so important to be centered in Christ, otherwise we may look for love in the wrong areas!

Read the Word (26:00)

There is so much goodness in the bible. Reading is one way you can get to know God more. Lila shares that reading is one way you fall in love with God.

1st John (27:00)

1st John is an amazing place in scripture to take seekers of the faith to.

May 6, 2019

Kendra Fletcher is a speaker, author, steadfast mother of eight children, and a fellow podcaster too. Today on the She Walks In Truth podcast she talks about her new book "Leaving Legalism" and how this writing project came about. Listeners will be challenged, empowered, and encouraged to seek the Lord in everything they do through Kendra and Carrie's conversation today.

Introduction to Kendra (2:00)

Kendra's  passion is to see people set free from really bad religion. She was raised as a California gal in a Christian home, and had 8 children early in her marriage. Kendra and her husband had a heart to raise their children in the faith and through a series of events they decided to home school, which they were told at the time, home schooling would “save their kids”.

Emergency (6:00)

Early on as a mother, Kendra’s baby went into a comma. This was a life changing day for her as she found out her son had caught a deadly virus with liver, kidney, heart, and brain damage. Kendra shares that she believes the traumatizing event was the start of God communicating her and her husband that their focus was on the wrong things.

An Unknown Future (7:45)

Thankfully Kendra’s child was okay and survived the deadly virus, however she did not know what the future would hold. One day driving her kids in the giant van one of her daughters jumped out and was accidentally ran over. Thankfully, the daughter was okay and after some trouble at the hospital, she and her kids still made it home. Kendra shares this was another huge marker in the journey out of legalism.

Where is Your Hope Found (10:00)

Our hope is meant to be found through and only through Jesus. Whether it’s finding worth in the way you mother, what church one goes to, or a method of education, it will all fall short of the hope found in Christ alone.

A Close Call (12:00)

Kendra shares how after a time of all 10 family members having the flu, one of her children became more sick and come to find out had a ruptured appendix, in which they had nearly lost her. This was another eventful mark in her walk with the Lord.

Walking Away (13:00)

Through all these trying events, Kendra and her husband made a decision to walk away from an abusive church situation. Making this decision was better for the health of their faith journey in the long run. Carrie elaborates on how she is blown away by the resilient spirit within Kendra for all the trauma, emotions, challenges, and trials she faced throughout the years.

Be Aware (14:30)

It is extremely important to take notice of how leadership within a church treats you and holds their place. No one is ever meant to take the place of the Holy Spirit, this is something we as believers need to be aware of. If there are rules that seem to micromanage and produce shameful mentalities, or if you feel that your freedom is being stripped, take caution.

Who We Are (18:00)

God constantly tells us who He is and who we are because of that. God is a good father and in return, we are extravagantly loved. Carrie elaborates on her experiences within an unhealthy church and how it made her feel. The struggle is real when there is unhealthiness in a church environment.

Justified and Redeemed (20:00)

If we are justified, redeemed, and restored people God does not look at us with a lens of brokenness and our mistakes, he sees the lens of Jesus in our place. As church bodies, leadership needs to remind us who we are in Jesus more and more. We are created to focus on who we are justified in Christ.

Undoing (22:00)

We are always going to be in this constant process of undoing things that were taught by man. As believers, we’re made to embrace every single thought God has of us, and let all other opinions be laid down. Carrie reminds listeners that God’s kingdom is filled with joy and peace, may we live into this truth with wide open hearts to receive!

A Really Good Legalist (23:30)

It seems to be that as believers often times we are really good at trashing ourselves living into a sinners worth mentality. Kendra challenges listeners to embrace the fact we are already redeemed by God and can live into that mentality. Church bodies don’t need more people telling people what to do, what people need most is people teaching us what Jesus has done for us.

Walk in Confidence (24:00)

If you find yourself in an unhealthy church environment and sense a call to leave, walk out with confidence. Knowing that you’re seeking the Lord is enough to walk away from a group of men and woman telling you what you need to do to be right with God.

Leaving Legalism Book (24:45)

Kendra shares a bit about her Leaving Legalism book and how she provides practical questions for readers to reflect on in effort to help process, heal, and move forward from legalistic mentalities. Click HERE to purchase the Leaving Legalism book.

Pride and Fear (27:00)

Jesus plus this and that is not the way to live! We should never add things to the gospel, therefore it’s important to remind ourselves of the simple gospel on a daily basis. Jesus is enough, and that is all we need for true hope in this life!

His Kindness Leads to Repentance (30:00)

God's Kindness leads us to repentance. Carrie shares about her experiences in realizing what God’s heart for repentance was, which is love. We are not on the losing side of God when we repent. God desires for us to repent because He only has the best intentions in mind.

He is Everything (32:00)

God's kindness wants to remind us that he is everything for you and I. He is everything where our hope comes from. The heart of his kindness that says "let me remind you who I am, and who you are because of that."

Encouragement From Kendra (34:00)

If you have found yourself letting religion take the place of God for you, Kendra encourages listeners to start by praying to the Lord and asking him to help let you believe in Him more, to help you believe who God is better, and to help you believe that you are who God says you are. God is good, He’s better than we think!

Apr 29, 2019

Teresa McMillan is a leader and mentor for the World Race, a program for 21 to 35 year olds to travel to 11 countries in 11 months all while getting discipled and witnessing on the go. Today Teresa shares her transformation story to help build up listeners faith and to empower you to be the hands and feet of Jesus right where you are too.

Introduction to Teresa (3:00)

Teresa grew up Asheville North Carolina, was raised catholic, and never knew Jesus though she did go to church because her parents wanted her to.  From age 14 and on she pursued a buckwild life but around 22 years old had a pivotal moment in her spiritual journey. In that moment, a stranger approached her and asked if she was a Christian. This person in particular challenged her thinking in love, and shared the gospel with her in a way she had never understood before. Shortly after, Teresa decided to write a letter to God asking for the opportunity to know Him more and to be able to share about Him the rest of her life.

A Special Letter (4:45)

One day as Teresa worked in a J&S cafeteria, she received a piece of paper that had a typed letter saying something along the lines of, “Dear friend I love you, I miss you, and saw you go to sleep last night. Love, Jesus.” This letter in particular reminded Teresa of how real Jesus was and how He wanted to be so close with her.

A True Friend (8:00)

Teresa is still friends with the pastor that shared the gospel with her and occasionally speaks at the church to help inspire and empower the local body.

20 Seconds of Insane Courage (8:30)

Carrie pitches the idea that sometimes all it takes is 20 seconds of insane courage to share the gospel with individuals you find yourself around.

A Dream Come True (9:30)

Teresa had a desire to go and share her faith to the world, and this is what God has led her into.

Wisdom From Teresa (11:30)

See the person in front of you, notice them, and ask God what they need to know today. It’s all about taking it one person at a time. Teresa shares that evangelism can look different every time. Maybe it’s telling a person for 15 seconds that Jesus loves them, but it’s also sitting for 6 hours talking with the muslim family about who Christ is. Teresa also encourages listeners to be interruptible, to be open and available, to allow the holy spirit to move in and through you.

Hearing the Voice of God (13:00)

Sometimes it can be challenging to discern the voice of the Lord verses your own voice. Sometimes you may hear a voice in your head say “hey, stop what you’re doing and go talk to that person”. Even if you may have heard wrong, it’s still a beautiful thing to share the love of Jesus with someone else. God delights in our willingness and heart for obedience. Make sure to give yourself extra grace! You never know until you try.

Cross Cultural Missions Verses the USA (15:00)

There seems to be a thinking in the Christian culture that evangelism in the United States is more difficult that evangelism overseas. Teresa shares that it’s not one or the other, both are just different. There is an intense intentionality overseas, while most evangelism for her in America happens in the day to day while eating at a restaurant, uber driving, waiting at an airport, and other moments like that. This is not to say intentional outreach doesn't happen in the United States, because it most certainly does!

A Global Revival (18:00)

Teresa shares that she almost exploded at the send and it was a dream come true to see many people gathered and worshipping Jesus. She believes God is creating a wider capacity in her to be more bold in evangelism and on fire for God.

Sugar Fast (20:30)

Teresa elaborates on how this 40 day fast from sugar is serving her.

Crushed (21:30)

After a sister dying and Dad committing suicide, the grief process was excruciating and Teresa felt like she was going to die. But in that time, she overcame and found true hope in Christ no matter what.

Suffering Produces Hope (25:00)

We all need God to renew our minds on a daily basis. A couple good questions to ask God during times of difficulty are “God what was that?” and “Hey God, why did this happen?” When we hear God minister to our hearts, it changes everything. We encourage you to invite Him into the process.

The World Race (27:00)

Content manager, Kailey Mattarella did the World Race and that is how Carrie and Teresa were initially connected. The world race is a branch off of the Adventures in Missions organization which provides opportunity for people of all ages to embark on missional journeys around the world, while being discipled along the way. Impressively, there are currently over 480 ministry Adventures in Missions partners around the world.

Radically Changed (30:00)

Teresa shares how she gets to see lives radically changed not only across the globe, but within America too.

World Race America (30:30)

For a long time Teresa had a dream to bring the gospel into the nations and through the new opportunity known as “World Race America” this dream has come true.

Turn to Jesus  (31:00)

If you are someone that has never started a relationship with Jesus, we encourage you to start one today. God wants to be close and you don’t need to do anything but simply come as you are. Teresa is someone who had never read the bible before she gave her life to Christ but knew in her spirit it was the best decision she could ever make. Following Jesus will be hard, but it most certainly is choosing the best life. It is in all of our best interest to live for the King of kings, the Lord of lords, the one who loves us through it all.

Crystal Hodges is speaker, writer, and resilient leader. On this episode she shares her personal experience with cyber bullying. Because of her facial difference, she was the target of a social media post that went viral to over 30 million people. Her story raises awareness on this very real, hurtful issue in our culture today. Crystal shares practical insights on ways you can help protect the privacy of others, be sensitive as to what kind of content should be shared online, and how we can all use our God sized dreams for the betterment of this world. Let Crystal inspire you on how to use your difference to make a difference in your life!

Introduction to Crystal Hodges (2:30)

Crystal grew up in a baptist home, with a deep heritage in the Christian faith. At around six years old she accepted God, and at twelve years old decided to be all in for His glory. This leader is a gal on the move, working hard to encourage and empower others with a message that we can all make a unique difference in this life.

A Facial Difference (5:00)

Crystal has had to deal with a lot of attention to her face because of how many people give negative attention on her port wine stain birthmark. She has had to deal with quite a bit of health treatment, stares from people, harsh comments, and much more.

Cyber Bullying (6:00)

Crystal knows well what it can look like and feels like to be bullied. In the recent past, a photo of her with the port wine stain birthmark went viral to 30 million people around the world via social media, which in return made her headshot become a digital symphony cause.

Be Cautious (11:00)

It is very important to be cautious with what we post on social media in this day and age as well as how we go about purchasing photos. A photo gone viral over social media to one person may look funny, but to another person it might be their unwanted face portrayed.

Born to Overcome (12:00)

We have a choice to be dwellers of the pain or to overcome for something greater. Crystal learned this lesson after a dear friend spoke truth and challenged her thinking in regards to her unique facial difference and how she could use her life experiences to make a difference in this life. From there, she was empowered to live a life of overcoming rather than being a dweller of pain.

Dream Board (13:30)

Crystal decided to create something called a “Dream Board”, which allows her to visualize, set goals, and dream with God on what she truly desires in this life.

A Greater Passion (19:00)

Carrie poses a question in regards to asking what Crystal is passionate about. Crystal elaborates on how she finds great purpose in teaching, challenging, and encouraging others to treat people with kindness no matter what they look like or who they are. She's been asked to speak at events, share her story, teach, and plans to continue engaging with communities in this capacity.

Our Words Have Impact (21:00)

Whatever you say to somebody, you don't get to decide what sticks. We have the power to choose what we let out of our mouths, may we be wise and discerning with this gift.

The Travelin Chic Blog (22:00)

Carrie touches on a blog post Crystal wrote titled “13 Things to Remember about Health Advocates and Role Models”. To check this blog out click here.

Healthy Boundaries (23:00)

Just because someone may have an influential platform, doesn't mean they need to respond to everyone. It is in our best interest as followers to understand and respect that people on platforms need healthy boundaries too.

Writing and Speaking (25:00)

Crystal is now full time pursuing her vocation in writing and speaking. She quit her job after getting married and is excited to have more space and time to fully invest into this realm of influence.

Encouragement from Crystal (28:45)

Carrie asks Crystal to share a word of encouragement to the listeners and Crystal responds back with “God knit you together with intention and purpose, you’re beautiful and to never forget that we were all made with intention.”

Carrie Robaina and Kailey Mattarella are not only good friends, but also co workers for the She Walks In Truth podcast. Today they decided to chat on navigating work and friendship dynamics, the back story on how they first met doing ministry across the states, and how starting work together with the podcast all took place. The insight, joy, and goodness of God they share on the podcast today, will inspire you to open your eyes to what God has laid right before you as well.

The Backstory (3:30)

Carrie and Kailey first met at a Love Twin Cities missions trip about five years ago and continued networking with each other as they were involved with the same ministry based out of Minneapolis.

Not Your Typical Missions Trip (4:00)

The mission trips Carrie and Kailey were involved in when they connected with each other were one of a kind. These mission trips consisted of an entire week of 24/7 outreach, prayer, and worship. They have both traveled to Minneapolis, New York, and San Francisco, serving alongside one another and having a blast while doing it.

A Joyful Heart (7:00)

Carrie takes a moment to honor Kailey for who she is and all that God has called her to be.

Outreach Night (8:00)

Kailey is reminded that Carrie and herself  originally met on the streets of Minneapolis, worshipping at a local bus stop with a group of people. They both agree that it was a blast to say the least. That night Kailey couldn’t help but jump up and down saying, “this is what we’re made for!”

An 11 Month Mission Trip (10:30)

Kailey shares how her time with the World Race was a foundational year, one of the best and most uncomfortable times of her life.

Episode #36: Learning to Walk By Faith (11:00)

Close to two years ago, Kailey was interviewed on the She Walks In Truth Podcast talking about her faith journey as she prepared to do the World Race missions trip. Check episode #36 out if you’d like to learn more about her faith journey!

God Knows Best (11:30)

We can trust God in His goodness and that He will reveal all we need to know in perfect timing.

Take A Risk (12:30)

Kailey shares how God really encouraged her through Carrie’s words and mentorship. This past year Kailey decided to pursue entrepreneurship instead of going back into the social work field, and Carrie was the perfect person to mentor he in that transition through starting work with She Walks In Truth.

Working Together (13:30)

No matter what kind of friendship or working relationship one finds themselves in, it is important to maintain honor, integrity, and respect towards one another.

Kingdom Mentorship (15:30)

Often times the people that may be good to partner together with are right in front of us. Kailey and Carrie both agree God showed up in their lives, bringing each other together for a reason and they encourage you to ask God to open your eyes to this reality as well! God desires to use the skills you have to help coach and disciple others along.

Walking In Wisdom  (18:00)

Carrie and Kailey chat on how they started off with firm boundaries in regards to communication styles for their work relationship as they navigated a new role, coming in as good friends already.

A Thriving Friendship (19:00)

Stewarding friendship as Kailey and Carrie dance between work and personal life boundaries has been an exciting journey. Kailey expresses how cherished and taken care of she has felt by Carrie.

Internal Dialogue (23:30)

Sometimes when we start off with a new job, especially working for someone we look up to, there can be an unhealthy strive for perfection. Kailey shares that “while striving for success is good, we need to give ourselves grace and be okay to make mistakes, knowing we are doing our best with what we know how at that time”.

Together Is Better (26:00)

Carrie and Kailey both love each other so much, have learned from one another, and are equally excited for what God is doing in their individual lives.

Letting Go (28:00)

Carrie shares that in this time of hiring Kailey on, she has grown in learning to let go, entrusting Kailey with responsibilities she no longer has to think about. In return this has been a season of new freedom and space to expand the influence of the She Walks In Truth podcast!

Friendship Takes Precedence (29:30)

When in a working relationship with someone that is a close friend, Carrie and Kailey both suggest having a conversation on ways you can protect a friendship for the long run, before you start official work with each other.

Joy Makers Project (30:30)

Joy Makers Project is an organization that was downloaded on Kailey’s heart during an 11 month missions trip around the world in 2018. This is a platform organization that empowers people to go and spread authentic joy around the world by spreading random acts of kindness, generous gift giving, and notes of encouragement. Part of this project’s mission is to create awareness that we should never underestimate what God can do through the little things to impact someone's life or change the trajectory of someone’s life for the better! You can check out Joy Makers Project by clicking HERE.

Be Encouraged (33:30)

We don’t have time to value any thoughts within our own mind outside of what God thinks of us. God is speaking constant affirmations over us and it is in our best interest to tune into what those affirmations are. See Psalm 139.

Best Case Scenario (34:00)

Sometimes we make up things in our own head that simply aren’t true. If you are in a sticky situation and not sure what someone may think of you, Kailey’s best advice was to “think of the best case scenario unless that particular person was to tell you otherwise.

Meeting Seth Barnes (6:15)

After Lisa and Gary met founder of the World Race Seth Barnes, this changed the trajectory of their life. Be Faithful (21:00)

Gary encourages listeners to be faithful with what you have in your hands right now, do it really really well, and then see what God does with it next.

Involvement with the World Race (22:00)

Blurred Visions (7:00)

Sometimes the visions of what family dynamics would be like don’t turn out the way we expect, and that’s okay.

Entrusted (8:30)

God entrusted us with His children, it is an honor! We must devour God’s word on a constant basis to stay on track with stewarding His children we are entrusted with.

Starve the Fear (13:00)

Connie suggest that as mothers with children, we should starve the fear that grips us when it comes to parenting.

Pressure’s Off (17:30)

Where your child is today, does not mean your child will be in that state or lifestyle one year, five years, or even ten years from now.

God’s Mandate (19:00)

God has given us a mandate to teach and train our children in the way they should go. Our job is to do our very best and be faithful with that mandate.

Trust and Adjust  (23:00)

God simply asks for us to do the best we can with what we know, now. Be faithful in prayer, pay attention to what you say, and how you communicate with your children. We can always adjust our parenting styles as we learn and grow!

A Beautiful Dance (25:00)

Don’t sacrifice relationship on the hand of unbending rules. We must learn the dance of navigating relationship and healthy boundaries with our children.

Meet People Where They’re At (9:40)

Our gifts can be used to make a difference (16:30)

We all have unique gifts that can be used to help restore God’s Kingdom on this earth.

Collaboration is Key (21:00)

Often times real growth comes from working together as a team rather than individually. Here-sharpening and refinement takes place!

Advice from Sarah (22:00)

If there is a tug on your heart for this population GO for it! Simply showing up and sharing the love of Jesus through word and action makes a big impact. Don’t shy away from YOUR story--it could empower people more than you know.
