This Week’s Takeaways

  • We may know that God loves us but often times there’s a disconnect in really experiencing that love. Regardless, the truth still remains that God is calling us to live the embodied life of the beloved, friend!
  • What if we learned how to pay compassionate attention to our own experiences in the same way God is paying compassionate attention to us?
  • There’s a huge need for faith and psychology integration!
  • Unfortunately, often times whatever we experience in our families, we will project who God is through that.
  • “Try Softer: A Fresh Approach to Move Us out of Anxiety, Stress, and Survival Mode--and into a Life of Connection and Joy,” is a book written by Aundi as a resource for you to help align your mind, body, and soul to live the life God created for you. Make sure to get your copy of the book here!
  • God is the best, kindest, most consistent, and loving parent we could ever have. Allow this truth to be a foundation to leverage kindness towards yourself!

This week’s Takeaways

  • We have different parts that make up who we are. We are spirit, we have a soul, and we live in a body. It’s important that we take care of all these things that make us a whole person!

  • Our spirit gives us meaning and purpose and enables us to love others, to love ourselves, and to love God.

  • To pursue a life with intention and purpose is how God wired us to live!

  • Our physical bodies need to be healthy in order to function the way it's created to. One of the ways we do that by paying attention to what we feed our body.

  • As we move forward in 2020 what are the action steps you’re going to take to living a healthier life? It’s important to know why you do what you do and it’s also important to know what you want to do.

  • As a child of God, we live for the expectation of one.

This week’s Takeaways

  • At 17 years old and being pregnant, Laura was confronted with a desire to get her life right and to do things well. She found out that God was the only thing that could help her do that, and He met her right where she was at amidst some really challenging times.

  • When you’re moved by the spirit, you can’t help but have emotions come out!

  • War for your children through prayer and it will change things, no doubt!

  • Even if your loved ones aren't walking with the Lord, God will still burden your heart for them. We still have spiritual influence in their life and can care for them through intercession.

  • There’s no need to be afraid of prayer, if you feel an impression to start praying for somebody, go ahead and start praying.

This week’s Takeaways

  • Wherever we’ve been, whatever we’re doing right now, and wherever we’re going, God already knows. Psalms 139 says, “O LORD, you have searched me and you know me. You know when I sit and when I rise; you perceive my thoughts from afar. You discern my going out and my lying down; you are familiar with all my ways.”

  • In this life there will always be ups and downs, finding beauty in the mess is key. Whether that be digging into community, speaking truth, or remembering this time will pass, these messy situations are opportunities to draw closer to Him!

  • Messy situations happen to every single one of us, it’s something God can use to awaken our need for him. Check out Romans 5:3-5.

  • God has a 100% track record of faithfulness, He will carry you through!

  • Are you going through a hard time? Find a way to give back! Giving in the midst of trials can be a great Holy Spirit distraction for us. We can do something kind for someone else, no matter what we’re going through!

  • Joy Makers Project is a ministry that goes out and shares love with other people, activating individuals, groups, and businesses to be more outward focused. Check out the ministry here.

Get ready to dive into a meaningful conversation with founder of Aunty Anne’s Pretzels, Anne F. Beiler, as she shares her profound story of overcoming abuse, despair, depression, and trauma. Join us and be inspired to help break the silence of pain in you and your loved one’s life today!

This Week’s Takeaway’s

  • After suffering the loss of Anne’s young child, she became entangled in a world of despair. Anne was without hope until she learned how to break the silence of pain through confession and bringing hidden things into the light.

  • “The Secret Lies Within: An Inside Out Look at Overcoming Trauma and Finding Purpose in the Pain,” is a book written by Anne F. Beiler, encouraging others going through challenging times that they’re not alone. Make sure to grab your copy of the book here!
  • Allow God’s glory to become your story! Nothing is ever wasted in our lives. For many years Anne was silent because of the secrets that were kept within, but after the act of confession, she now see’s the beauty and freedom that comes with taking responsibility to confess.

  • If you know someone going through a traumatic time, sometimes it’s best to just be there, sit with them, and help carry their burden.

  • Are you going through a challenging time? Speak up! Find someone that you’re safe with and allow them to help you bear those troubles and talk about how you feel. These actions are key to the healing process.

  • The power of confession takes us into a whole new way of living and there are many ways you can practice that. Bedside prayers, journaling, and confessing to one another are all ways we can receive freedom in Christ!

This Week’s Takeaways

  • Just because someone may throw shade at you, does not mean you need to join in. We can change the whole atmosphere with what we speak out loud. BE a conversation changer!
  • Proverbs 18:21 says, “Words kill, words give life. They’re either poison or fruit, you choose.” We’re encouraged in the word of God to guard our mouth and to guard our tongue.
  • Holding your tongue is not only for others benefits but you benefit as well. One way to calm a situation down is by seeking to understand a person rather than assume what their intentions are. Maybe taking a moment to clarify and ask that person to explain how they feel in that particular situation, or to explain their side of things may help.
  • Speaking life can look different depending on what means of communication you use. In person communication, text messages, phone calls, and social media comments are all ways we speak. Let’s do our best to spark life in these areas!
  • If you find yourself in a difficult conversation that isn’t sparking life, try changing the direction of the conversation or offering to pray for the individual speaking.
  • Our standard is the bible, that is our go to source for wisdom when it comes to speaking.

This Week’s Takeaways:

  • Today in our society there’s a ton of social upheaval, and sometimes that can be challenging to navigate. Still, we encourage you to keep your own family culture strong, no matter what’s happening outside of your home.
  • A husband and wife having a strong partnership with shared goals is important to the health of a family unit.
  • Children are more capable than you think. Allow your children to have real work to do, when you expect more out of them, they’re able to show you what they’re capable of.
  • Family life is a great learning lab for practicing how to get along as an adult. If our kids learn those lessons well in childhood, it’s setting them up for success to have meaningful relationships in the future.
  • Because of the different cultural dynamics in Carrie's family, they've had to work through different social rituals and find what fits them best. For them, the dinner table is really important so having one meal together at least once a day is a priority. This helps teach their kids to belong, to feel secure, accepted, and safe!
  • Cheryl recently wrote a book which is a memoir called, “Many Hands Make Light Work.” She talks about her experiences of growing up in the 50’s and 60’s in a town in the midwest, with 8 siblings and parents who trusted them to work hard. Click here to grab your own copy!

Get ready to dig into God’s word and see what it says about...money! A topic filled with many opinions, join Carrie Robaina as she share's what God thinks about money and how you can be a good steward of your finances in everyday life too.

Spotify: http://carrierobaina.com/spotify

Stitcher: http://carrierobaina.com/stitcher

PlayerFM: http://carrierobaina.com/playerfm

Website: shewalksintruth.com

This Week’s Takeaways:

  • If money becomes the boss of us and we want to serve it more than God, that becomes a heart issue because it’s not meant to own us.
  • God’s word says a lot about money and we should look at that in light of all scripture, not taking anything out of proper context.
  • Anything that is contending with, fighting for, or pulling us away from the love of God is what we want to steer away from. Underneath God, we have peace, safety, security, and comfort!
  • Timothy 6:10 says, “For the love of money is the root of all kinds of evil, and some people, craving money, have wandered from the true faith and pierced themselves with many sorrows.” Money can be a root of all kinds of evil, however it’s not the money itself that’s evil. It’s the human heart that will determine whether money is used for good or not.
  • In everything we do, may we work at it as if we are working for the Lord. Check out Colossians 3:23-24.
  • God is concerned more about our heart and how we steward what we’re given rather than how much income we actually bring in. If you’re a business owner and receive money from a product or service you give, it’s what you do with the money that counts.

This Week’s Takeaways:

  • Adrienne and her family live in Nashville, Tennessee. She’s a mom of two children and has an incredible testimony of her marriage being restored by the grace of God!
  • Whether it be postpartum depression or something else, there’s no shame in getting help to stay safe! If you know someone struggling with postpartum depression, we encourage you to spend time with that person and help them with anything you can. Often times in situations like this, the best thing you can do is help that person even if they don’t ask for it. If you’re struggling with a form of depression, we highly encourage you to find a support system!
  • God works in so many different ways in our lives whether we recognize it at the time or not.

Creating the magazine was a tool that not only helped Adrienne move forward and heal, but also impacted many others in such a positive way.
  • God has given every person a gift and a skill that is meant to solve a problem for someone else. When it comes to sales and business, we should see it as serving someone else. We owe it to those people to offer our products and services!

On this week's episode of She Walks In Truth, musician, writer, and passionate follower of Jesus, Sasha Frank, joins Carrie Robaina for a conversation about navigating life after college, facing fears, healing from trauma, and walking through obstacles with God.

This week's topics of discussion:

  • Sasha came to know the Lord through experiencing the realness of life. After graduating college, Sasha felt like she was one of those people who slipped through the cracks. This led her to depend on God and to seek Him more and through that she realized God was with her all along.
  • No matter what decisions we make in this life, God loves us the same.
  • ”Introducing Sasha Frank” is a memoir of Sasha’s life God laid on her heart to create and publish. You can purchase Sasha’s book here!
  • We don’t live for the approval of man, it’s the approval of God that counts! Embrace who God has made you to be and trust that He will guide you.
  • Why do we allow fear to saturate us, when sometimes that fear isn’t even rational? Recognize and release those fears, you’re meant to walk in freedom!
  • Healing from past and recent trauma can be a challenge. One way we suggest to work through that is by journaling. Reflecting allows us to see things from a different perspective which can help promote healing within. Sharing your story and not being ashamed to talk about it are also ways that can help with healing too.
  • It’s okay to follow your passions. By doing the will of God, your soul will be nourished and He will provide the character to sustain it.

On this week's episode of She Walks In Truth Carrie Robaina talks about the life changing experience of dropping her son off at college and being a first time college mom.

This week's topics of discussion:

  • Carrie’s oldest son Ethan knew he wanted to attend University of Kansas since he was in 5th grade!
  • Carrie was at a loss for words when she and her husband Ricardo finally dropped off their oldest son at the University of Kansas. Though tear jerking, it was also a memorable time of starting new traditions for their family.
  • If you're a parent, be encouraged that you can start a new tradition regardless of how old your child is or what transition in life you’re in! Don’t be afraid to capture those precious moments with loved ones, just share with them why it’s important to you and make sure they know in advance your intentions.
  • It’s important to have conversations with your children transitioning into adulthood, asking if there has been anything in their life that you should apologize and ask forgiveness for. This can really help clear your mind as your child takes off!
  • God is a compassionate and loving God. What defines you is who you are in God’s eyes!
  • It’s so important to allow yourself to feel all the emotions and to be compassionate towards yourself.

Rebekah Lyons is a popular speaker and best selling author joining the show today to talk about a book she wrote called “Rhythms of Renewal: Trading Stress and Anxiety for a Life of Peace and Purpose.”  Listeners on the show today will walk away with tools on how to quiet the chaos of life so you can create room to flourish.

This Week's Takeaways

  • It’s hard to be the church if we aren’t talking about the current tensions of our day. It’s important to make sure the faith we carry as believers makes sense in the times of culture we live in. Whether that be gender, technology, or diversity, as people of God we’ve got to walk straight into it and embrace the tension.
  • Several years ago, Rebekah walked through a season of anxiety that turned into a series of panic attacks when she and her family moved to New York City. Rebekah desired to walk in sustained spiritual, emotional, and relational health, and in order to do that, she discovered four new rhythms of everyday life to pursue.
  • Our journey with God is active, sometimes we need to literally walk it out.
  • Play and control cannot coexist, our control is actually rooted in fear. Allow yourself to discover what having fun can mean by trusting, releasing, and surrendering to God!
  • The rhythms of rest, restore, connect, and create are universal to everyone, still they come in different expressions depending on how God has uniquely designed each of us to function.
  • If you need peace, offer praise. You can meet those fears with adoration.
  • It’s so important to connect with the Holy Spirit! Whether it be creating, resting, needing to forgive, dealing with past hurts, or whatever it is on your heart, communication with God is priceless.

Dr. Christine Stueve is the founder of Sano Wellness Center in the Minneapolis area and the Neueroscience Institute of Pastoral Medicine which is a non-profit institute that focuses on supporting our communities that are hurting and not responding to mainstream health care. In Part 2 of this series, Dr. Stueve digs a little deeper into some of the causes of health symptoms and how God has created our body in unique ways to heal. Make sure to listen intentionally, take notes, and share this episode with someone else who needs to hear this information today!

This Week's Takeaways!!

-Dr. Christine Stueve shares that dealing with the spiritual aspect of pain is often the most important part of healing. One of the main reasons why people don’t walk in victory of their health is because it’s a deeper, generational sin pattern that is hindering you. There are hidden strongholds we need to break agreement with, it’s simply a matter of walking through and praying through those strongholds.

-Let's make sure to not be afraid to dig into the deeper issues with the Lord! Writing things down and becoming aware of past hurts is half the battle. When we recognize how our past may be affecting us in a negative way today, we are then able to release it and let it go.

-The sooner our kids know their identity in the Lord, the better!

-It's pretty amazing that we can train our nervous systems out of stress patterns. Though it takes persistence, perseverance, and trust, if we embrace the process, it actually works!

-God wants to see you joyful, He desires for us to experience how amazing this life can be!

-Dr. Christine Stueve has so many great resources for you to check out! Purchase her book “Dust to Diamonds” here. Be sure to learn more about the Sano Wellness Center here and the Neuroscience Institute of Pastoral Medicine here too!

This Week's Takeaways

  • Every single thing God walks us through good or bad is a blessing, for He is the one who guides, equips, and heals.
  • Over the last couple hundred years, we have steered away from natural medicines and that has made it hard to see how the use of frequency, vibrations, and energy for healing purposes when applied in the guidelines of God’s word is good. However, natural medicine can be a great alternative to mainstream medicine today.
  • It’s good for you to ask God if there is anything holding you back from Him or from full healing. We should not shut down the hard things we deal with because those hard things are opportunities to dig in and to know God’s character even more.
  • We all understand pain and we all understand fear. Each comes in different forms and expressions depending on who you are and what your unique genetic expression is.
  • When we start to understand more about how the body functions in God’s image, we can understand the process of God’s plan for healing too!
  • When it comes to practical equipping tips on moving from trauma to living in a different way of life, Dr. Christine Stueve advises you to embrace the word of God with a surrendered heart and a willingness to let go of past trauma.

Jess Connolly is a best selling author and coach, passionate about equipping women to be all that you’re created to be! She joins the show today to talk about a new book of hers called "You Are the Girl for the Job: Daring to Believe the God Who Calls You". This book not only shares why you are the girl for the job, but how God made you for the job.

Introduction to Jess Connolly (2:30)

When Jess and her husband were first married, they ran a maternity home which taught them wild ministry lessons. In recent years, she’s started a ministry coaching women, helping to show how mighty God is within them. Jess loves coming alongside women, hearing what God has asked them to do, and encouraging them to do it.

Behind the “Why” (6:20)

Jess shares why she decided to write the “You Are the Girl for the Job” book. She shares that it was the book she needed to read, something full of God’s truth, about His capacity and ability in us for the days when we feel like we couldn’t or weren’t qualified.

Let’s Quit Now (9:15)

We cannot seek God’s glory and our own at the same time. If any part of our hearts has decided to seek to win instead of wondering at his goodness, let’s stop now. When we praise other people instead of God, we create a hierarchy that is not healthy. We need to quit those unhealthy and unholy motivations! God is our hero and our life is this opportunity for abundant and obedient worship to Him and Him only.

Obedience is Key (12:20)

Our responsibility is to worship and to be obedient.

Six Principles (14:00)

Jess shares six principles in her book. First, set your focus on work, life, and relationships in a healthy and Godly way. Second, take stalk of the story that has shaped your life. Third, fight fear and stand up for what the truth is. Fourth, Catch the God sized vision and learn to hear from God. Fifth, Make a plan for that vision and sixth, make the move. Take what you’ve been given and put obedience in your feet.

Make A Move (19:00)

Carrie highly recommends the “You Are the Girl for the Job” book. It’s filled with God’s truth, giving you permission to take action and make a move. To purchase the book, click here

Unconventional and Holy (21:00)

Mary Magdalene was the very first person to see Jesus after he was raised from the dead. Think about it, this has a wild impact for women who feel like they aren't qualified for ministry.

Redeemed (23:00)

Jesus takes broken people, heals them, then uses those same people for His glory.

He is Faithful (24:00)

No matter how long someone has or hasn’t been in Church, God’s word is alive and active. If we’re reading through scripture and a word resonates with your spirit, lets press into that!

Be Encouraged (24:45)

It’s wildly important that you believe God says you are the one for the job, that He’s placed you where you're at on purpose. God is not doubtful, scared, or nervous about your inadequacies. He will give you all the help you need to complete what He’s assigned you to.

Get Your Pre-order Goodies!

Jennifer Fernjack is an inspiration and brain tumor survivor who joins the show to share her story on the process of getting diagnosed, waiting, getting treatment, and how God has seen her through these challenging times. Stay tuned to learn how you can use emotional grit to strengthen yourself in everyday life too!

Introduction to Jennifer Fernjack (1:15)

Jennifer is from northern Minnesota, raised with a mindset of rather than complaining about things, to just get through it. For over 25 years she has been in the financial business industry where she originally started out working in branch offices, but now travels to many offices teaching employees new and important skills.

Medical Diagnosis (3:45)

In the spring of 2016, Jennifer was diagnosed with a brain tumor. After receiving the results, Jennifer wondered if she would go blind, if she would ever get married again, and even if she would eventually die. As Jennifer realized this situation would have to be faced, she decided to make the most of it by writing a list on the positives of having a brain tumor. By creating a positive list, she knew it would naturally release feel good chemicals in the brain to help get through this difficult time.

Processing Emotions (7:20)

Processing worry and all the treatments coming up was a journey for Jennifer especially when she had a diagnosis in May, but wouldn’t have surgery until August. Sometimes she would lay in bed consumed by a sea of doubt, but in those times she was intentional to switch her mindset into seeing the blessings through it all.

Count Your Blessings (9:20)

Jennifer shares on the importance of having healthcare. Having access to technology and healthcare in the United States is such a blessing!

In the Waiting (10:30)

Sometimes the waiting is the hardest part of a diagnosis.

The Medical Journey (10:45)

Carrie asks Jennifer to elaborate on her process in the waiting, during, and after recovery.

Reframing (12:35)

Reframing is a psychological word meaning it’s not always the stimulus that determines a reaction but rather how you perceive a certain situation will make the biggest difference.

Choosing Gratitude (14:30)

The night before surgery, Jennifer and her family had a big conversation on logistics of burial, will, and wishes if she were to not make it through this surgery. That night she took a shower and decided to listen to upbeat music because it helped produce the "feel good" chemicals in her body. Music was something that helped her before and during the recovery of surgery.

The Surgery (16:30)

Jennifer’s surgery took about 6 hours and the brain tumor they found was about the size of a golf ball. After surgery, she would need to do radiation treatment for about 5 to 6 weeks.

Radiation Treatment (17:45)

During one of Jennifer’s radiation treatments, she decided to listen to Rapper’s Delight song. The person working radiation treatment made a funny joke before they turned on the music quoting “today we have a little radiation for the ladies” and this brought a new joy and laughter to Jennifer in that time.

Random Acts of Kindness (19:25)

To encourage and help someone as they are going through challenging times can bring fulfillment in so many ways. Random acts of kindness is one way to help distract people from difficult seasons and to help switch a worrying perspective into a grateful one instead.

New Perspective (20:20)

Instead of worrying about what could of happened to Jennifer through this trial, her family decided to be grateful for the surgery and how far she had come. Perspective is the key!

A Changed Life (21:00)

Jennifer shares how she has become a better person because of this brain tumor experience. She is more grateful for the simple things, looks at everyday as a gift, thinks relationships are of most importance, and realizes the best things in life are free.

Stitched Together (22:45)

God will take the broken pieces of our lives and help stitch them back together.

The Power in Positivity (24:15)

Even though we can't control the quantity of our lives, we can still control the quality of our lives. Not only does a positive attitude impact the person choosing to be positive, but it also impacts people all around.

Be Encouraged (25:00)

No matter who you are, what your life is, and what your circumstances are, remember that the best things in life are free.

Sep 2, 2019
Content manager for She Walks In Truth, Kailey Mattarella, and podcast host, Carrie Robaina, introduce a new podcast feature of quarterly episodes on "Ask Carrie and Kailey". Together, they're going to help answer questions listeners have about faith, life, and "get to know you" questions about themselves, too! This week's episode focuses on turning worry into worship and how to get "unstuck" in those challenging times. Stay tuned for an interactive and thought provoking conversation!

Turning Worry Into Worship (2:00)

Last week Carrie posted a blurb on Facebook about turning worship into worry. In return, someone commented back “how” and this led Carrie to think, “that is a great question!” If we don’t understand something or aren’t sure, it’s important to be bold and just ask the simple question of, “but how”.

What is Worship (2:45)

Worship is not confined in a box. Worship to Kailey is inviting God into whatever you are doing! If that means waking up and getting out of bed when it’s hard to or singing with others at a local church body, there are so many ways we can worship God.

Carrie’s take on Worship (3:40)

Worship is a word we often hear in Church and sometimes we can get in a mindset that it’s a slow song everyone sings, but Carrie’s take is a little different. Worship is in everything, in fact of all of creation worships God! Whether it be the birds singing or the spiders weaving their webb, it’s all worship. Worship can take on different expressions and forms depending on what season we’re in as well. Maybe it’s turning on worship music at home, choosing to eat healthy, or even dancing around as a way to choose joy instead of worry.

Endless Possibilities (6:30)

There are endless possibilities on what worship can be! Waking up early to make lunch for a child, helping someone with a chore, or caring for your family, are all ways of worship. When we submit our lives to God in everything we do, that is worship.

Temptation to Worry (9:00)

This past spring, Carrie went through a big life transition. She and her family sold their house, moved to a different state, all while caring for the kids, going to graduate school, running multiple businesses, and trying to maintain good health. On top of all that change, health problems arose which caused Carrie to get sick day after day. As she went through this tough season, there were many opportunities to turn worry into worship.

A Season of Endurance (11:30)

Though Carrie found herself in the ER multiple times this summer, she was determined to still call on the name of God, no matter what. Some nights, Carrie could hardly sit up, other nights, she couldn’t sing. But the nights Carrie was able to sing, she recited the verse over and over of “heal me and I shall be healed, save me and I shall be saved” as a declaration and praise to God.

Embracing the Unknowns (13:00)

When there have been alot of unknowns, Kailey has found herself worrying and trying to control situations. As she’s started to release worry, give it to God, and let go, it’s helped her learn how to rest. The act of being intentional with rest is something that has been huge in this season for Kailey and she encourages listeners to do the same.

Resting (16:00)

Resting can be an act of worship, too. We are not worshipping some unknown God in the universe, but rather the triune God, the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.

Joyful Worship (17:00)

We can worship God while having Fun! Whether it be going out for coffee with friends, walking around the neighborhood, or doing some creative poroject, thank God for who He is through it all.

Psalm 96:13 (18:30)

Psalm 96:13 says, “Let all creation rejoice before the Lord, for he comes, he comes to judge the earth. He will judge the world in righteousness and the peoples in his faithfulness.” When we worship God, He’s going to inspect our hearts.

Made New (19:30)

God is the one who gives us true peace. When we’re in God’s word, study God’s word, and know God’s word, we start to live it out and think of it more often.

How to get Unstuck (20:20)

Back in 2017, Kailey went through an emotionally and mentally challenging year. Looking back now, she recognizes there were many thoughts and memories she allowed herself to dwell in such as painful memories and hurts instead of dwelling in truths and speaking those out. We all think thoughts, let’s make sure to think on the thoughts that will benefit us in the long run.

Internal Dialogue (23:00)

Our internal dialouge has the power to move us forward or keep us stuck. In the church, it seems like we don’t talk about these things enough.

Our Thoughts Matter (24:00)

Before we say it outloud, we’ve already had to think about it within. Alot of getting unstuck starts with the mind and taking thoughts captive on what we’re actually thinking about. The first step to getting free from bad thoughts, is by recognizing them in the first place. Let’s not wait, but start doing that today!

Gaze on Him (25:50)

It's in our best interest to keep our eyes gazed on God!

What is your Portion (26:45)

If you’re in a season where you have alot going on, God will give you the capacity to keep doing that. At the same time, being busy does not make us super Christian! If you think you may be too busy, just ask God to help you. Holy spirit is your best guide in navigating with the day to day schedule. What is your portion today?

Get Unstuck Tips (28:45)

One, Remember God is in control and He’s not surprised by the things your struggling with. Two, prioritize your time by thinking about what you’re thinking about! It’s important to take thoughts captive. Three, create! God created us to create and that is one way to get rejuvinated.

Turn up the Volume (31:00)

When going through a rough time, make sure to blast that worship music! You may be surprised on how the atmosphere can change when we sing praises to God.

Aug 26, 2019

Rachel Wathen is a young woman filled wisdom and passion for cultivating family. Today she joins the show to share on challenging dynamics she went through when fighting off a sickness, to teach listeners how to overcome hard times, and so much more. Stay tuned for a sweet and joy filled conversation with Rachel and Carrie!

Introduction to Rachel Wathen (2:15)

Rachel’s parents were raised in the catholic church and at about 23 years old they were introduced to the Holy Spirit. Being introduced to the Holy Spirit brought them into deeper relationship with the Lord, so from the get go Rachel had an awareness of who God was. She is the youngest of four children and her siblings have helped create a solid foundation in her life.

Rachel Today (4:15)

Rachel graduated college about a year ago, was a nanny for some time, and currently is an instructional assistant for students with disabilities. Her older sister recently had a baby and most of her free time is spent holding that child!

Chosen (5:30)

All of Rachel's siblings have chosen the Lord at one point or another in their life. Together, they feed off each other and it allows them to learn more. How beautiful!

Wisdom Comes Through Experience (7:15)

Wisdom does not solely come from age, rather it comes through experience. The Lord promises we would go through hardships and what we have gone through as individuals is not depicted in our age. There is no mini holy spirit or mini God, all of this is available whether we are young or old.

Specific Plans (9:30)

The Lord has something specific He wants to teach each of us. Just because believers will learn lessons at different times, doesn't mean we’re in better or worse places with the Lord. It’s all about the personal relationship we have with God and He knows what we need most.

Value of Vulnerability (10:30)

It's okay to rest where you are and not be afraid to verbalize it. Rachel has had a lot of different health issues that started once she was out of high school. From hormone imbalances, to parasites, to E. Coli, to scoliosis, it’s been constant challenges for quite some time. Ironically, her biggest fear up to this point had been getting sick. Through these difficult times it has shown her every single day she has a choice to sit in fear or to give her weakness to the Lord and trust that He is there to comfort her.

Father of Healing (12:05)

God is the Father of healing and He is sovereign no matter what. Healing can look different than what we expect and that is okay. Through extended periods of health issues, God may be doing a work in your heart. May we always keep an open mind that God only has good intentions and knows best.

He Doesn’t Change (13:00)

Rachel shares how the Lord called her to come home part way through her college years. In this time home she lacked community and felt as if life was mundane and purposeless, but through this God became more of a dependence. No matter what kind of numbing or lack or purpose you may feel, it’s important to dig into God. Our feelings or experiences do not change the truth of who God is, may we embrace that wholeheartedly.

Hidden Weeds (14:30)

The wounds of our childhood can cripple our adulthood, let’s not have past hurts hold us back. Today is a great day to weed out those past hurts, for there is more life and freedom in store for you. Rachel describes our hearts like a beautiful garden with weeds that need to be pulled out. Every single thing we go through in life gives opportunity for a flower to bloom and more room in the garden to be taken up by something healthy and living. We aren’t promised tomorrow, take the opportunity to grow and heal today!

Confronting Fear (15:55)

Carrie asks Rachel to share more on how she confronted the different health issues coming at her. Rachel mentioned in the beginning of her health issues she was wondering why her biggest fear in life was taking place. There were so many questions with little to no answers. It was a word from a woman at a bible study, prayer, and Jesus that allowed her to press on and accept that God is abundant and good no matter what. Knowing who He is wouldn’t change regardless of circumstances, gave Rachel the peace she needed to carry through and overcome.

Choosing to Trust (19:00)

It's in our best interest to trust the Lord. Our trials often times will bring us to a place of dependence and needing God on a deeper level.

Feast with Truth (20:00)

Our mind feasts with what it focuses on, that’s why it’s important to speak life over yourself regularly. While feelings of hardship are certainly valid, don’t stop there. One way to feast with life is by simply rejoicing this is a day the Lord has made and to be glad in it. See Psalm 18:24 for a biblical reference.

Faith is a Choice (21:00)

Letting fear become greater than faith is a choice. May we let this sink into our hearts today.

God Breathed (24:15)

Scripture is God breathed and will not change while this world is wavering and changing all the time. We have no idea what tomorrow will bring, so let us be diligent to soak in His truth and promises everyday. Write it out, let it filtrate through your mind, fill yourself with it every and anyway!

A Beautiful Challenge (25:00)

As believers we are called to take scripture literally. It can make things more difficult to hear and accept but at the same time it also makes things about who God says we are so much more beautiful. The bible is just an account of all the amazing things Jesus did while here on earth. There is so much more in store for us to discover!

Be Encouraged (27:00)

Whatever you’re going through Rachel’s heart goes out to you. Similar to the biblical times of people fighting for the promised land, today is a fight to battle for the Kingdom of God. Keep fighting, keep pressing, don’t give up, friend! The fight is worth it, God’s promises are true, and He will see things through in His perfect timing.

Wendy Henley is a woman of God and kingdom entrepreneur where she and her husband use their business to love the corporate realm in unique ways. Listeners on the show today will be encouraged, equipped, and challenged to make a kingdom difference in your work life too.

Introduction to Wendy Henley (1:35)

Wendy is a wife, mom, and a teammate with her husband in the mortgage company and culture. She and her husband recently opened Trinity Oaks Mortgage company and feel God has honored this opportunity to reach people for Christ.

Forerunners in Kingdom Business (4:10)

Trinity Oaks Mortgage company sets an incredible example for so many other business on how to bring the kingdom of God into the workplace. They have four core values such as honest communication, second mile service, relentless pursuit of excellence, and generous love, all based on God’s truth. On top of living out these four core values, Wendy and her husband make an effort to hand out bibles to customers after they have honored them in the mortgage services.

Blessings in Real Estate (5:30)

Carrie shares how a Christian real estate agent greatly blessed her and her husband Ricardo when they recently had been looking to purchase a new home. She noticed the real estate agent seemed to care more about her as a person rather than how much money they could get from the business itself.

Stop for the One (7:45)

Jesus stopped for so many individuals, so should we! It can be intimidating to be courageous like offering to pray for people or sharing the gospel, however there is great fufillment when we do step out.

Trust in Him (10:40)

When we are called to something we must trust that God is going to make a way. If God has placed something on your heart such as handing out bibles in the workplace, you will never know it’s impact unless you give it a try.

No More Fear (11:45)

We don’t have time to let fear rob the joy from ourselves or for others, it has no right to dominate us. Overtime Wendy has learned to love sharing the joy of the Lord with folks around her. At first this used to get her nervous but now, she’s learned people want to know that you care. Little things like stopping for a server and asking if they need prayer can make a huge difference in someone’s life. What are some things you can do to make a positive impact on someone today?

Honor Him (14:00)

God is the one who accepts us, redeems us, and calls us back home. Because of who He is, we have a responsibility to honor Him in all we do.

Ambassadors of Christ (14:55)

We are ambassadors of Christ here and now, it is our privilege and responsibility to release that on earth. Believers do what we do because we desire to show God’s heart to the world around.

Fruit of the Kingdom (15:30)

God’s kingdom is peace, joy, righteousness, and love. Fear can rob us of so much joy and we need to be careful to not make things up in our own mind that would strip us of God’s peace.

Wendy’s Faith Story (17:15)

Wendy always felt like she had a connection with God. She was baptized catholic and at 13 years old, accepted Jesus as Lord and savior over her life. From an early age she wanted the fullness of Christ and nothing less. This carried on throughout her teenage years and at 19 years old she was able to attend a great church that allowed her to grow in a love for the word.

A Call to Encourage (19:00)

At 21 years old, Wendy was baptized in the Holy Spirit. In this, her relationship with the Lord seemed to go to a new level. Wendy started to have more spiritual dreams, discernment, and words of encouragement to share with others. To this day she loves to call out the gold in people, bringing hope and the love of Christ to all.

Stepping Out (21:00)

Wendy knew God was asking her to speak into people’s lives more so she started to step out and do that. As she grows in stepping out she is also being moved to pray and intercede for specific people laid on her heart. As Wendy walks in more obedience to Him, she’s learned to become more and more available for God to move through her. When you know you’re encouraging people in the Lord, you want to move in it.

Hope in the Hearing Devotional (26:00)

Wendy knew God was asking her to empower other people and the Hope in the Hearing book is one way she is walking out obedience towards that. This devotional is different from other devotionals because it emphasizes the importance of being thankful and grateful. It is a resource intended to help keep a reader's heart open towards the Lord and the probing questions will help activate individuals faith on a continual basis. Uniquely designed, everyday of the devotional is working off the last which will empower the reader to move into a new level with the Lord, build hope, and to reaffirm God is speaking to us everyday. Anchored in Love (27:30)

Let’s be anchored in the fact that God loves you, He’s guiding you, and wants the best for all of us!

Activation is Key (28:30)

Our faith needs to be activated on a daily basis. It’s important to consume information and knowledge, but we need to be intentional about acting upon that too.

TJ Tison is a business leader, strategic adviser, and change agent within the small business sector. Passionate about empowering women to live and work with purpose and kingdom fruitfulness, TJ shares how we can make a difference inside and outside of the workplace, too!

Introduction to TJ Tison (1:45)

Carrie and TJ met at a Christian in Media event and reconnected at a series event Carrie led all about learning how to podcast. Upon meeting each other, they felt an immediate connection and hearing what God was doing in each of their lives inspired them. TJ has been married for almost 28 years, has two grown children, started a business which helps other businesses grow, and also works for Working Women of Faith. This business organization she works with helps women get real about their faith in the workplace.

Killing Wonder Woman Book (5:30)

Killing Wonder Woman is a book about setting weary women free to win at work and to soar in their faith. There are a ton of resources on how to be a godly wife and mother but not so many resources on how to be a godly worker. While TJ’s motivation to write this book came from her own desire to figure out how God wanted her to go about faith within the workplace, she also wanted to create a tool for women to discover who God created them to be and not who everyone expects them to be. There is so much freedom understanding how God wired us and this is a book that can help significantly with that. Interested in purchasing this book? Click here!

Grounded in Truth (8:00)

It’s so important to be grounded and rooted in our identity in Christ! If we are not rooted in who God says we are, that is setting ourselves up for coming into agreement of what is not real truth. Being reminded of who we are on a daily basis is a worthwhile investment.

Christ Identity (8:45)

Who Christ made us to be and His plans for us are so much bigger than we can think or imagine. We encourage you to hold onto that truth, friend!

God’s Girl (11:00)

We don't have to be like anyone else, we just get to be who God created us to be. You are unique, special, valued, and adored. Not only will God use the hard work you put in working on identity for the good of yourself, but he’ll also use it for the good of others!

Made to Thrive (12:15)

We’re made to thrive in all kinds of life circumstances. Jesus came not to make bad people good, but to make dead people alive! There is a joy we receive that surpasses understanding through Christ Jesus. He came so we might have life and have it to the fullest.

2nd Corinthians 10:13 (13:45)

2nd Corinthians 10:13 says, ‘We will not boast about things done outside our area of authority. We will boast only about what has happened within the boundaries of the work God has given us, which includes our working with you”. Paul the apostle seemed to be one who cared more about what God thought, than the opinion of others. Carrie shares how important it is to not compare ourselves to others, rather to focus on what God has called us to do and obey.

The Comparison Trap (14:45)

The comparison trap is something that can trap women from walking out their full identity in Christ. TJ shares some of her experience in this and believes that God has equipped her to be a teacher in unique ways, not needing to look the same or to compare herself to other teachers. When TJ realized she didn't have to look like everyone else as a teacher, she received so much freedom. When we know it’s all about Jesus and not us, that's where true transformation happens!

Different Giftings (18:00)

We all have different gifting's and purposes in this life! We need to be mindful of not comparing but rather spending that time to seek God on what those giftings are.

His Promises are True (20:20)

When God gives us a promise and calls us to something, He is the fulfiller of those promises. Our job is to trust God, obey, and go! Let’s be cautious to not try and fulfill those promises on our own time frame. It is His strength, not ours that gets us through each day.

Intentional Discipline (22:30)

Carrie shares what she’s been learning when it comes to making sure her heart is set in the right posture before the Lord. Often times we can go about our day missing God through it all. It’s so much better to stay focused on God and His intentions. One way we can do this is by being in God’s word, consuming it, and speaking in conversation with the Holy Spirit throughout the entire day.

Abide in Him (23:45)

Apart from God, we can do nothing. How amazing is it that the God of the universe wants to spend time with us?

Abundant Living (26:00)

We carry the spirit of God with us everywhere we go. When we walk out our faith every moment of our lives, this is true and abundant living!

Andrea Accola is a multi-passionate creative, a musician, and a fierce believer. She recently moved from the Minneapolis area out to LA to help cultivate the gifts God has given her. Listeners on the show today will be activated to use the gifts you’ve been given for the greater good, but first and foremost, to prioritize character over talent always.

Introduction to Andrea Accola (2:00)

Andrea grew up in Norway and at 8 years old moved to Minnesota with her family. She has always been creative and desired to be on the cutting edge of what was happening for as long as she can remember. Growing up, there was tension with her parent’s relationship which led her to feel like she couldn’t be creative. For a long time Andrea also ran from being a leader because she was scared of her own leadership. She gave her life to Jesus freshman year of college and from there, it was a radical transformation from drinking and smoking to being concerned about who Christ was.

The Epiphany (4:45)

When Andrea was at a party, there was a moment in particular where she wondered why everyone was here and what the point of it all was.

A Passion for Music (5:20)

Music is Andrea’s passion. She enjoys using this gift to impact people in a positive way.

Created to Create (6:00)

We’re all created to create. Whether it be the arts, communication, cooking, decorating, design, it’s all unique! How has God fashioned you to create?

Embracing the Gifts (7:00)

Andrea moved to LA to invest in a church called Mosaic. This church in particular, has a way of attracting many talented people, while helping to cultivate individuals particular talents in celebratory, yet humble way. To check out the message that got Andrea interested in the first place with Mosaic, click here.

Full of Talent (8:30)

When you’ve been used to being a big fish in a small pond, then switch over to being a small fish in a big pond, it can be a little daunting to say the least! Andrea shares that Mosaic church is filled with incredible talent and many of the people attending do not hide their gifts, rather they’re at home in them.

True Leaders (11:00)

Andrea shares how Mosaic church makes and effort to host an environment in serving one another. Leadership is not commanding people to do something, rather it is serving people and the needs at hand.

Humble Leadership (12:30)

When you serve people, naturally they will want to follow you. Great leaders are servants!

An Exciting Season Ahead (13:40)

There's something significant about being around people who have a large amount of influence, a wide network of connections, and many talents. Andrea is learning so much from people around her and is seeing God set her up with dreams that don’t just involve herself, but involve others all around.

Character Over Talent (15:00)

Andrea shares how important it is to prioritize character over talent. What if we got so lost serving other people’s dreams that we couldn’t even see our own anymore? You never know how God may move you in a certain direction when your heart is in a place to simply serve people.

Let’s Be Honest (17:30)

In order to grow in character we need to be honest with God about where we’re at. If we pretend to be okay when we’re actually not, we aren’t going to receive healing in the places that we need.

Psalm 94:9 (18:45)

At one point in Andrea’s walk with the Lord she came to this place of crying out and asking God where He was. After falling asleep crying one day, she woke up and decided to randomly open up her bible and came across Psalm 94:9. This bible verse says, “Does he who fashioned the ear not hear? Does he who formed the eye not see?”. This verse in particular, struck her heart in a way that she knew, God was always near.

One Turn Away (20:30)

God is just a turn away and that is a truth Andrea holds close to her heart.

Be Encouraged (20:50)

No matter how much pain you may be in, it's never justified to lash out at anyone. Letting God be your defender can be stunning. We have a choice to not be offended.

He Doesn’t Lie (23:15)

God does not lie for He doesn't know how to do that. What an amazing truth!

James 1:13-15 (23:55)

Carrie talks on a bible verse from James 1:13-15. It says, “when tempted, no one should say, “God is tempting me.” For God cannot be tempted by evil, nor does he tempt anyone; but each person is tempted when they are dragged away by their own evil desire and enticed. Then, after desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and sin, when it is full-grown, gives birth to death”.

He is our Defender (24:30)

We can know that God is fighting for us always. He’s enough and is our defender!

Rich Campbell is a counselor, life coach, and helper to many! Today he joins the show talking to us about counseling, the bible, the brain, and the mind. Stay tuned to learn how you can develop a healthy subconscious and belief system, and how to encourage your loved ones in that too.

Introduction to Rich Campbell (2:00)

Rich has a unique and eclectic background. At 16 years old, he became a Christ follower by watching Billy Graham on TV and grew in the faith by InterVarsity Christian Fellowship in college. It’s been an adventurous journey in his lifetime academically, family wise, and vocationally so far. Rich also shares that he’s noticed one season of life will often prepare us for the next season in life ahead.

Human Complexities (3:15)

Carrie and Rich chat on how the brain and mind work. Scripture has many different perspectives on it which Rich finds particularly interesting. When we dive deep into looking at the brain and how God made us, it’s incredible. In the space between our ears, God has placed 100 billion brain cells. There is more mathematical complexity in the space between our ears than there is in the known universe. Wow!

Created in God's Image (4:30)

The animals God created can build to a level of instinct but often times they don't create beyond a certain level of instinct, while humans do. God is a wonderful creator and he gave us a powerful organ called the mind, which allows us to create with intricate detail and imagination.

A Heart for People (5:30)

Rich has a heart to help people understand the way our mind works so we can know who God created us to be and so we can become the best version of ourselves. He’s learned a lot from journeying with people through life coaching and therapy.

Therapy and Life Coaching (7:00)

Rich does therapy and life coaching from the perspective of having vision and providing perspective on what it is that you’re thinking. He believes it’s important to know why we believe what we believe, for this propels us in everything we do.

Proverbs 4:23 (8:00)

Proverbs 4:23 says, “guard your heart above all else, for it is the wellspring of life”. Whether you believe you can or you can't, you're probably right. We need to be mindful of what thoughts we allow in our minds to circulate, and if those thoughts align ourselves into who God made us to be.

Find a Cheerleader (10:00)

It’s so important to have support and coaching to spur you on! Who are the people that encourage you to grow and believe in what you’re capable of? As much as we should be mindful about what others are saying, we should be mindful about what we are telling ourselves too.

Overcoming Challenging Relationships (13:00)

It’s hard to believe what we’re truly capable of when surrounded by negative people and challenging relationships. Rich suggests coming back to the root of it all asking yourself first, “why am I surrounding myself around these people?” We are meant to be valued and it is vital to surround oneself around people that see value in you if at all possible. At the same time, when working through changing a belief system, it may be helpful to have a coach or support to help you correct those parts of yourself wrestling to see your true worth.

Staggering Complexities (14:20)

The conscious mind can process about 2,000 bits of information per second and the subconscious mind can process about 4 billion bits of information as well. Beliefs about ourselves mostly reside in the subconscious part of our mind, that’s why getting to the root of our deeper belief systems and issues is crucial.

True Freedom (16:00)

True freedom comes when we find belief systems that don't line up, wrestle with it, and take our process to God.

Parental Wisdom (18:00)

Carrie asks Rich to elaborate on ways parents can help children develop a healthy subconscious. Rich encourages listeners to be mindful of what they are teaching their kids through words and by example on a daily basis. One way to be mindful of this is by taking a moment to picture your child being interviewed as an adult and the interviewer asking, “what's the most important thing your dad or mom taught you growing up?” What do you honestly think that picture would look like? We encourage you to be the example you desire for your kids to glean from!

Time to Reframe (21:30)

Reframing our thought patterns is a worthwhile investment. Rich shares several reflective questions to ask yourself to help foster an awareness of certain belief patterns in your life.

Resting in the Unknown (22:55)

Life doesn't always make sense and that is okay. Often times we try to make sense of things that are beyond our ability to respond. It’s important to accept what can and can’t be understood in this lifetime.

Surrender (25:00)

Do you have a thought pattern or behavior you know isn’t life giving? If it’s not working, surrender it! Ask God for a new thought pattern, ask Him for help to develop that new thought pattern too. He is faithful.
